- Gimme The Funk Gimme the Funk (DJ Hype 1993-1998) (2020)
It's Sunday morning, time to chill. Another busy week is ahead, and we need to 'wind' down a bit. The perfect music to wind down with, has got to be Drum & Bass. A bit of it won't hurt you. Yes, you might feel a bit Hyped (see what I did there?), but you will still feel chilled to the bone. And I have found the perfect mix for you Drum & Bass fanatics out there, made by the regular to this site, DJ Pearsall. He's made yet another epic mix, and today is the perfect day to get your head around it. DJ Hype. Is there anyone who's a Drum & Bass fanatic who doesn't know him, or his name? DJ Hype has been around for many years, and his music has been a huge influence to many upcoming producers, and ravers. DJ Hype is a legend, with a lot of big anthems under his belt, and he has contributed a lot to the Drum & Bass scene over the years. As a true DnB lover I have owned a lot of CDs mixed by DJ Hype, and I do love his music, and his style. DJ Pearsall made this dedication mix, filled with anthems from 1993 until 1998. So the early DJ Hype stuff. You can hear him progress throughout those years, from Hardcore to Jungle to early Liquid Funk. It's a nice mix, and it's all in order. 27 years of DJ Hype. Unbelievable. The tracklist is a must see! Check it out! DJ Hype - The Chopper DJ Hype - The Trooper (Scratch-A-Snare Mix) Gappa G & Hyper Hype - Information Centre (DJ Hype Remix) DJ Hype - Shot In The Dark (Gunshot Mix) Fallen Angels - Hello Lover (DJ Hype Remix) DJ Hype feat MC GQ - Roll The Beats (Inject The Bass Mix) Dopestyle - Fade Away DJ Hype - Tiger Style DJ Hype - Doomed To Fail DJ Hype - Going Out For Da Loot Marvellous Cain - The Hitman (DJ Hype Remix) Remarc - RIP (DJ Hype Remix) DJ Hype - Freestyle Of Bass Dr. Octagon - Blue Flowers (DJ Hype Remix) Bally Sagoo - Chura Liya (DJ Hype Remix) DJ Hype - True Playa'z Anthem DJ Hype - Peace, Love & Unity (Remix) Armand van Helden - Ultrafunkula (Ganja Kru Remix) Ganja Kru - Plague That Never Ends Freestyles - Attack DJ Hype - Barking Bass Freestyles - Musically Dope (Ganja Kru Remix) DJ Hype - The Big 30h DJ Hype - Closer To God The mix intensifies the 'younger' the records become. Again, remember that these records are in order, so you start back in 1993, and the last 4 records are from 1998. You see DJ Hype slowly progressing into the DnB legend that he is. And it's all been mixed together beautifully by DJ Pearsall, but he always has excellent mixes, if truth be told. The mix is tight, as usual, and Pearsall has picked some excellent tunes. Obviously this is not the first time I've reviewed a mix made by him, and it won't be the last one either. Lockdown has given us all a lot of opportunities to spend time accordingly, and I'm guessing DJ Pearsall has got a few other mixes coming? I hope so, seriously hope so. The mix is tight, the records are wicked, got nothing negative to mention. But the big question remains; do I like DJ Hype's 'early early' work, or the 'later' work? Well, I do like the 1993 records in this mix. Not saying that everything after 1993 is shit, absolutely not. But the Hardcore side of Hype was really really good. Which takes us to the section where I select my favourite records of this mix. And it's without a doubt the best one: 'The Chopper'. Big anthem. Check this mix out, and let DnB rule your Sunday. - Binary Finary - Luminosity 2016
It's Saturday morning, and I've just woken up. I need something good to entertain me. And I think that I have found exactly that! You don't want to wake up to 200 BPM music every day: some days you just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy chilling music. Like Trance music, the perfect style to wake up with. But do you prefer the new Trance, the Millennium Trance, or the early Trance? Well, I do like a bit of everything, but classic Trance is just much better: it's the style I grew up with. So pure, and nostalgic. So after typing the words 'classic' and 'Trance' on Soundcloud, this liveset was presented to me. So, this set. It was recorded at one of the biggest Trance events in the world, Luminosity, back in 2016. And if you check the line up for that year's event, it was big, very big: Will Atkinson, Sean Tyas, Sied van Riel, Signum, Bryan Kearney, John O'Callaghan, Kai Tracid, Paul van Dyk, Judge Jules, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Menno De Jong, Airwave, John 00 Fleming, Richard Durand, Talla 2XLC, Shugz, Artic Moon, Rex Mundi, and many, many more. This was a line up that would be exciting to every Trance lover. Sadly I missed that event. Binary Finary do not need an introduction. Their name is well known in the Trance community, especially because of their hit '1998'. And during their set they played the finest classic Trance anthems out there. And I'm talking about epic Trance anthems. The tracklist is something you need to watch, and be in awe about. You cannot let this mix go by without listening to it at least once! The tracklist. Are you ready for a trip down memory lane? Cosmic Gate - Exploration Of Space (Original Mix) Gouryella - Gouryella (Original Mix) Three Drives - Greece 2000 (DJ Shog Remix) Lost Tribe - Gamemaster (Dreamy 2014 Rework) Nu NRG - Dreamland (Binary Finary Remix) Golden Girls - Kinetic '99 (Jensen & Carter Remix) Marc Et Claude - LA (Moonman Flashover Remix) Rank 1 - Airwave (Daniel Rems Remix) Binary Finary - 1998 (Paul van Dyk Remix) Ayla - Ayla (Verachoca Remix) Lost Witness feat Tracey Carmen - Happiness Happening 2014 (Allen & Envy & Sunset Remix) Photographer vs Armin van Buuren - Airport Shivers (Nirmana AvB's Remode) Commander Tom - Are Am Eye (John Askew Remix) Mauro Picotto - Komodo (Save A Soul) (Megavoices Claxixx Mix) Well, it is not a fully classic Trance set, but it has got a few obvious slammers. It starts with a wicked classic, and ends with a classic, and in between you've got a mixture of everything. That's why I am still writing about this mix. Diversity is key. I do like the classics, but mixed with newer stuff makes everything sound better. And Binary Finary have delivered an awesome set. I bet that those who went to see them, had a brilliant time. The records selected are good, it's nicely mixed together, and the outcome is an hour and 15 minutes of pleasure. You have probably already checked out this mix, and you don't need me to tell you that it's a dope one. You don't need to be reminded. I am just doing you a favour, and telling you to check this one out, again! Why not, enjoy this dreary Saturday with a few awesome Trance anthems. The best one? Sorry, but it's obvious. 'Gouryella' by Gouryella. Can't beat this masterpiece! - Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland - Covid Dance Nights (18th July 2020)
We humans are resourceful . We invent ways to keep us busy doing the worst of times. And COVID has taken the whole world to stand still. It will have a long lasting impression on mankind, and we will be able to tell our children and their children that we survived COVID. How, you might say? Social distancing and face masks. And we created something that was already existing, but not as big as before: home parties. Not house parties, but home parties, using the whole wide web as our source of entertainment. The internet has become our stable source of entertainment. And we certainly need that during this shitty time of year. Or just shitty 2020. Let's fucking get rid of it, eh? Today I was in a mellow zone, and what is good music to listen to when you are mellow in spirit? Trance music, correct.Lately I've been on a buzz, enjoying music more than before. And COVID has put a bit of a downer on everything. Should we go partying again? Is it safe? Standing in a field with thousands of ravers, is that really a good thing? For me, personally, I like to stay at home now, be entertained by the streamers. And no, not the gaming streamers, but the music streamers. I keep hearing new music every single day, and today I've come across a mix by Akira Kayosa and Hugh Tolland. I needed a nice and long mix to keep me going through the working hours. And this was the perfect mix for me. It's jam packed with excellent Trance anthems, and it's nearly 2 hours long. What else do you need? Don't know the Covid Dance Nights crew or the concept, but I'm guessing it's similar to all those streaming services out there. So what do you get in nearly 2 hours of Trance music? Well, Trance records (duh), and a lot of them. 21 amazing and amazeballs records, by a diverse group of producers, including a few made by Akira and Hugh themselves. Be prepared to be amazed! Draft 2 Design - Affection Over Reason (Basic Draft) Luminary - Amasterdam (Smith & Pledger Remix) Scarab - Vagabond (Original Mix) Kayosa & Tolland feat Matt Noland - Sound Control (Original Mix) Bodyshock - Fullmoon (Original Mix) Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland - Galactive (Original Mix) Kayosa & Tolland feat Matt Noland - Sweet Nothing (Original Mix) Astaeus - Stranded (Original Mix) Oliver Lieb - Subraumstimulation (Michael Dow Remix) Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland - Re-Entry (Original Mix) Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland - Ode To Mungis (Original Mix) Embrace - Embrace (Ferry Fix) Matt Darey - Nocturnal Delight (Kayosa & Tolland Remix) ID - ID Scott Mac presents De Progression & AJ Gibson - Twilight (Morph Remix) Stoneface & Terminal - Berlin 2000 Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland - Disconnected (Original Respray) Yahel - Devotion (Akira Kayosa & Hugh Tolland Refurb) Second Sun - Empire (PVD Tpod Mix) VDM - No Hesitation (Original Mix) Lost Tribe - Angel (Four Four Mix) It has been a brilliant two hours. I've really enjoyed myself, and hearing those tunes coming through my speakers. The music was good, and it was well mixed together. If you are a Trance lover, you will certainly love this mix. Trust TCD (=me). I love the diversity in this mix. Some of these tracks do linger towards the early years of Trance music, and some just sound brand spanking new, and fresh. Some even have the housey vibe surrounding it. I'm really digging this kind of music. It's refreshing. But in general Trance is anyway. This is my first Akira and Hugh mix, and even though I've heard of their music before, I am highly impressed with this mix. Really enjoyed it. And I've got only love for it. But which record is my favourite? I couldn't choose. I had two in my mind. Two. Oliver Lieb's 'Subraumstimulation', remixed by Michael Dow, and 'Ode To Mungis' by Akira and Hugh. Both extremely wicked anthems. But not the only two reasons why you should check out this mix: there are 21 reasons! A wicked mix. True Trance. And downloadable too! So what are you waiting for? - D-Sturb @ The Outdoor Mainstage Of Experience The Feeling Of Intents Festival Online (2020)
We all know 2020 has been a dreadful year, and we are still in it. The world has given us this rather unusual task, to stay at home, and not party. Now, I am Dutch, and I've been partying since 1998, so to have a year where no parties are happening besides the ones that are streamed online without any audience, is just so surreal. But I think we've all just accepted that COVID-19 is a complete tool, so whatever party is hosted online, we just accept it. Be it obviously without an audience, but it's still our main source for wicked music. One set I found on Youtube was D-Sturb at this year's Intents Festival edition. I just needed my daily Hardstyle dose, and with his set, yesterday's choirs were done easily. When you are doing choirs, like cutting the grass, it becomes a doddle. It gives me that extra boost, when I certainly need this boost. It did work, but now I am burned and look like a lobster. Yes, I forgot to moisturise my skin. Factor 100 next time. But for now, I've got a red face, red nose, and red neck. Ah well, a good reminder that I can do choirs with excellent music, but also a reminder to use sun lotion. D-Sturb's records have been top notch since I first discovered them many moons ago. He's got this unique sound, and even though his records can be rough and raw, they all have this melodic sound. A necessity for me, to make a record work. And for his set at Intents Festival this year, he has picked a lot of excellent records. He's not just the new kid on the block, he's already an established name, and his set shows us why he's awesome. Fact. The tracklist for anyone who's interested....: D-Sturb & Sogma & E-Life - Hold On D-Sturb - High Power (The Next Level Remix) Hard Driver - Blow Da Club Down Vertile - Change This Place D-Sturb - World Out There Warface &D-Sturb - Take On The World Sub Zero Project - Playing With Fire (Live Edit) D-Sturb & Villian feat LePrince - I Am Rebirth (Rebirth Festival 2020 Anthem) Sub Zero Project - The Silence D-Sturb & Sound Rush - Embracing The Madness D-Block & S-Te-Fan & D-Sturb - Feel It! Radical Redemption & Nolz - Remember The Name D-Sturb feat Alee - Party At My Place Sub Zero Project & D-Sturb - Heroes Of The Night (Intents Festival 2019 Anthem) Warface & D-Sturb feat Rafael Krux - Collective Paranoia Rebelion - Bassline Junkie Warface & D-Sturb - Extortionist Deadly Guns - Get Dissed This is one sick mix. I've really enjoyed this set by D-Sturb. Some sets just grab you from the first anthem, and won't let go of you. This is one of those sets. Flawless. And it gives the raver enough energy to party for 55 minutes non stop. D-Sturb certainly knows how to get everyone moving! The set is filled with serious dancefloor anthems. D-Sturb is a real force, his anthems do tend to get played everywhere. And obviously used a few of his own productions in here. You know someone isn't the kid on the block anymore when his collaborations are with big names such as Warface, Sub Zero Project, D-Block & S-Te-Fan, and more. The tracks are just sick. And to start with 'Hold On', you know the place will be lit. Such a suitable song for this dreadful year. 2020 can certainly fuck off. But it has given us a good anthem, to be fair. But is it the best one of this D-Sturb set? Nope. I have to join many commenters on Youtube. Vertile's 'Change This Place' is the best one of his set. Fuck me, this gave me more boost than anything else in this set. You can watch his full set on Youtube, see the player below. If you love D-Sturb and his music, you will NEED to listen to this monster set. To me, this has got to be the best set of 2020 that I have encountered so far! - Intents Festival 2018 - Warmup Mix By Demi Kanon
I know, I know. I am fully aware that Intents Festival 2018 is long behind us, but there's a reason, a reasonable reason why I am talking about Demi Kanon's warm up mix for that year's event. Well, there are multiple reasons, but the main one being: I was looking for a specific track on Soundcloud, and the first mix that appeared, was this one. I was looking for 'Get Up' by Adrenalize feat ADN. Such a big anthem, obviously, and when this warm up mix appeared, I couldn't let it slip by, and pretend that nothing happened. I had to review this mix. Why? It's a big mix. That's why. You will know what I'm talking about once you see the tracklist. Yes, I know this mix is 2 years old, and 2020 has been a horrible year for the festival season, but we can still enjoy good music, and maybe look forward to 2021, which will be the return of the festivals. I couldn't let this go by, I am terribly sorry. And I know, I should have listened to this back in 2018. But what happened, happened. And I missed this mix completely. I have to be honest though: I didn't know who was behind Demi Kanon. I have seen the name before, but never did any research. A few minutes ago I read this rather interesting interview, so I am now aware of Demi Kanon, and the person behind it. And to gain attention so quickly within the Hardstyle scene, and to leave a permanent mark on it, is always an achievement. Much respect for this 'newcomer'. Well, after 5 years I wouldn't call him a newcomer anymore, right? So he did this promo mix. It's a short one, but it's highly addictive, and very, very powerful. Only 9 tracks, so typing the tracklist shouldn't be much of an issue. Demi Kanon & Inverze - Close Your Eyes Demi Kanon feat Nino Lucarelli - Nothing At All Headhunterz & Sound Rush feat Eurielle - Rescue Me Demi Kanon - Closer KELTEK - Through The Night Hypnose & Airtunes - Shaman Audiotricz & Demi Kanon - Fallen Horizon W&X x Vini Vici - Chakra (Wildstylez Remix) Adrenalize feat ADN - Get Up I can only give this mix as much credit as possible, but this mix deserves so much more. I only discovered it this morning, and I haven't stopped listening to this. Such an addictive mix. I had to go back into my work office, and seeing as it was nearly dead (no one there), I could just put my headphones in, and put the volume on maximum. And even on the way home it's been an absolute bliss. A fucking epic mix! The weird thing is that there were no comments underneath this Soundcloud player! Which I simply do not understand? How come no one responded? This mix should deserve so much more. It's filled to the brim with Euphoric Hardstyle, and don't we all love that? It's such an emotional style, it's rough and raw and yet beautiful and melodic at the same time. It has received a few plays though. No doubt that people wanted to hear this mix. The last 20+ plays have obviously been myself. Sorry. I do adore Euphoric Hardstyle. It just makes me feel so damn good. And Demi Kanon's short but exciting mix contains 9 epic dancefloor and festival slammers. And now the big question, which is the biggest of them all? You would expect me to say 'Get Up'. The lyrics are so good, touching and emotional, but I did not select this as my favourite! (shock!!). I have selected 'Fallen Horizon' as my favourite one. No mucking about, just straight into the melodic stuff. From the first to the last second of this anthem I feel euphoric. Like I'm in a tent, somewhere in the Netherlands, raving my arse off, while the sun is beaming down on me, and making my drink nearly undrinkable. That's what this track does to me. A wicked mix. Definitely worth checking out. And it's also downloadable! So, even though 2020 is shit, we can still pretend to be at a festival. Just close your eyes, raise your hands in the air, and let yourself go! But please, don't do it in public, you might look like a fool. And rave safe, of course! - The Prodigy 1991 - 1993 (2020)
If you were born before the Millennium happened, preferably in the late 70s of early 80s, there was a band that might have dominated your youth. That band I'm talking about, is obviously the greatest Breakbeat/Rave band in the world, The Prodigy. If you are too young to remember who they are, or never heard of them, don't worry: it's never too late to catch up on our precious history. The Prodigy has to be the biggest band in the whole world. RIP Keith. May he rest in piece, and rave forever! They have made history. They are part of our raving community. And yes, they might have gone a different path over the years, the early years of The Prodigy are still remembered as the golden years. Their first two albums were extremely well received, and if you are not aware of which albums I'm talking about: Experience, and Music For The Jilted Generation. They did release many albums after, but personally these first two albums remain the best. We can talk about their history and their impact on the raving scene for hours, but we shouldn't. This is a blog, and not Wikipedia. I would urge anyone who is interested in the history to visit Wikipedia, or other pages. There's plenty of information to be found online. Let us focus on this mix, made by Tony D. This is a good mix, it focusses on the early years of The Prodigy. He tried to mix all the records in order of release, but he made a small error. Would I be bothered about that? Not really, I cannot be fucked. Why? Because I'm not. I'm more focussed on the music, and the records he has selected are truly masterpieces. I base my judgement on my personal experience with The Prodigy, and the records I owned. This doesn't include the records Tony D used: he used a few versions of records I've not come across before. Obviously he had the biggest hits in here, but also a few 'originals' and other versions. Worth checking out. Here's the tracklist. Don't slobber all over your keyboard of mobile device. Make sure you've got tissues at hand. The Prodigy - Android The Prodigy - Everybody In The Place The Prodigy - What Evil Lurks The Prodigy - We Gonna Rock The Prodigy - Charly (Original) The Prodigy - Your Love The Prodigy - Pandemonium The Prodigy - Everybody In The Place (Fairground Mix) The Prodigy - Everybody In The Place (Dancehall Version) The Prodigy - Charly (Alley Cat Remix) The Prodigy - Rip Up The Sound System The Prodigy - Crazy Man The Prodigy - G Force Part 1 (Energy Flow) The Prodigy - Fire (Burning Version) The Prodigy - Fire (Sunrise Version) The Prodigy - Jericho (Genaside 2 Remix) The Prodigy - Jericho (Original Mix) The Prodigy - Music Reach 1234 The Prodigy - Wind It Up The Prodigy - Your Love (Remix) The Prodigy - Hyperspeed (G Force Part 2) The Prodigy - Charly (Trip Into Drum And Bass Version) The Prodigy - Out Of Space The Prodigy - Everybody In The Place (155 & Rising) The Prodigy - Weather Experience The Prodigy - Ruff In The Jungle Bizness The Prodigy - Death Of The Prodigy Dancers (Live) The Prodigy - Out Of Space (Techno Underworld Mix) The Prodigy - Ruff In The Jungle Bizness (Uplifting Vibes Remix) The Prodigy - Wind It Up (Rewound) The Prodigy - We Are The Ruffest The Prodigy - Weather Experience (Top Buzz Remix) I do have to give Tony D credit for making this mix. It's really nice to hear all these Prodigy songs, in every shape and form available. As you already know, I am a Prodigy fan, and I love to hear anything they made in the 90s, and in this mix a few version have been added I've not heard before, or not hear that often. That's always a bonus. So many great anthems, so many great memories. The Prodigy's impact on the scene has been tremendous, and they still keep on pushing it forward. Groundbreaking at the time, innovators of our beloved rave culture. They have made some of the most memorable anthems over the years, and as controversial as they were (like 'Smack My Bitch Up'), they are still in our minds. You cannot listen to a radio station in 2020 and NOT hear a Prodigy record at least once a day. From an underground group to the biggest act in the whole world. Over the years I have started to love their anthems even more, and it's difficult to pick one epic anthem. Yes, 'Charly' was the anthem when I heard them for the first time in the 90s, but my preference has changed. I have to say that 'Weather Experience' and 'Hyperspeed' have been on my favourite Prodigy list, both at number 1 and number 2. Tony D's mix and the concept behind it is really interesting. Sadly at certain moments not mixed together beautifully. A few errors here and there. If he tweaks those errors, the mix would have been flawless and highly enjoyable. It still is, but nowhere near perfection. Check out this mix and you can also download this for free! - DJ Smurf/Blue Fuzz @ History Of Hardcore. Glasgow, Scotland - 13/07/2019
The people in Glasgow always get the finest events. Last year they had a party called 'History Of Hardcore;, and the line-up looked good, as you can see. One of the biggest DJs on the line-up was DJ Buzz Fuzz, all round nutjob, but a Hardcore legend since the early 90s. Sadly, due to issues with his flight, he couldn't come. So they had to get a replacement DJ, and DJ Smurf was available. You know him, the blue guy. He took over, and did the DJ justice: he played the set that Buzz Fuzz supposed to do, filled with Buzz Fuzz records. DJ Smurf is obviously a legend too, and I don't think that anyone had an issue for him to step up, and take Buzz Fuzz's place. They still got their Buzz Fuzz dosage. So when I say dosage, I mean that the whole set was filled with records by this all time legend. I'm not sure how many records he has made, but it's a shit ton he has been making since the 90s. And his records dominated throughout those glorious years. Even when Hardcore was still kept alive, he was at the forefront of Hardcore. I can name all the big hits he has made, but I think we are all aware of the big anthems Buzz Fuzz has made. We do love his music. And if you remember his Wappie column in the Thunder Magazine, we all know he was a weird person. But someone with a passion for Hardcore. To see all these anthems being squeezed into an hour long mix is always good. Buzz Fuzz is a legend, but so is DJ Smurf, for stepping up, and taking Buzz Fuzz's place. Big boots to fill, but he did it. The tracklist is a thing of beauty. So here it is: Tony Salmonelli feat Buzz Fuzz - Class Axion Take 4 Buzz Fuzz - Freedom Lenny Dee - The Dreamer (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Human Resource - Dominator (Buzz Fuzz Remix) Buzz Fuzz - Men Of Teflon Buzz Fuzz - Dreamgirl (Original) Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Original Mix) Bertocucci Feranzano & Tony Salmonelli - Class Axion Take 2 Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies Buzz Fuzz - Drop The Pressure Buzz Fuzz - Jealousy (Is A Motherf#cker) Chosen Few - Name Of The DJ (Buzz Fuzz Remix) 3 Steps Ahead - It's Delicious (Buzz Fuzz Mix) Oh, it's so great to hear these anthems again! The good ol' days, eh? His music inspired me and has given me a lot of goosebumps throughout the 90s. So many memorable anthems. This man was an anthem machine! Obviously the most 'well known' one has to be XTC Love, but is it Buzz Fuzz's best one? Is it the best one selected by Smurf? Nope. But it was difficult. Buzz Fuzz has made a lot of awesome records, and it was hard to choose from. The two I have selected are my personal favourites of this mix, but not my all time Buzz Fuzz favourite anthem (that has got to be D-Leria). So which two did I find awesome? 'Frequencies' of course, and 'Jealousy'. Boy, you can play that at any event nowadays, and the crowd will loose their shit. I remember hearing them during the 90s at the raves I've been to, and it would be a climatic moment. I did love Smurf's set. Not focussed on his own music or style, but someone else's style. That's cool. He did Buzz Fuzz proud (I reckon). He has earned the title 'Blue Fuzz'. And if you were at the party, you must have had a wicked time! Not just with the Blue Fuzz playing, but also all the other Hardcore legends. Guess what? It's also a free download! So jump on it, and download this sick mix! - Headhunterz | Defqon.1 At Home 2020
It's safe to say that this year is probably one of the weirdest years of our known existence. Similar things might have happened in the past, but can we actually remember when the whole world stood still, and every person had to stay at home? The lockdown has changed a lot of things, including partying. If someone would mention in 2019 that we would stay at home, partying to livestreams, no one would have believed him/her. This is such a surreal period, but thankfully most of us make the best out of it. Including the organisation behind one of the biggest events in the Netherlands, Defqon.1. The event took place in Biddinghuizen, where it should have taken place anyway. The line-up remained awesome as hell, don't need to elaborate that the organisation still gets the sickest line-ups, but this time no crowd was to be seen. It was all via livestreams, and they made sure that the party, even when no one attended, was spectacular. If you have missed it, you don't need to worry: go on Youtube, and you will find the sets. But just by quickly looking at the video, you know the organisation have put a lot of effort into this. And made it work! It's still a weird sight to behold: a DJ being energetic, but no crowds. Lasers, fireworks, and a sick stage, but no one there! To please the fans, who sadly had to miss this, they still made it a unique event. Maybe slightly smaller, but they had bloody drones! And the video is in high quality, so you will be able to see and even hear everything better. Now, the set I found was Headhunterz's set. Of course I had to listen to it. And within a day it already reached 60k+ plays! People needed this. Not just this specific set, but Defqon.1. We miss partying, but this will give us enough ammo to get ready for 2021, the year where the world started to dance again. We need to dance. My living room is getting too small to rave in. I keep smashing everything with my heels. Anyway, the set. It's packed with the most euphoric Hardstyle anthems, selected by mister Heady. So enjoy it as much as I have. And it also includes a wicked track, brand new, one you need to look out for. Wildstylez - Children Of Drums (Headhunterz Remix) Headhunterz - Home Yellow Claw - DJ Turn It Up (Headhunterz Edit) Project One - The Upside Down Walt - Let the Music Play (D-Block & S-Te-Fan Remix) Builder - Her Voice (Super Bass Mix) Zedd feat Matthew Koma - Spectrum (Headhunterz Edit) Project One - The Creation Of Art Headhunterz feat Malukah - Dragonborn Part 2 Project One - Love Is Not Enough Cygnus X - Superstring (Aftershock Remix) Timmy Trumpet - Diamonds (Bass Modulators Remix) Project One - Move Your Body Project One - Move With The One Headhunterz feat Sian Evans - The Hunter & The Prey D-Sturb & Sound Rush - Embracing The Madness Headhunterz feat Sian Evans - Dragonborn Part 3 Headhunterz & Sub Zero Project - Our Church Headhunterz - Scrap Attack (Defqon.1 2009 Anthem) (2020 Edit) A very good looking tracklist. And he's added a few of his classics in here. Some I really adored when they were released. And of course he had to throw in some fairly new anthems, like 'Our Church' and 'Home', and a few Project One anthems. All in all a wicked tracklist, you won't be disappointed. I have to say, and we all already know, that Q-Dance has delivered a top notch event. Be it one of the weirdest ones in their history, but one that will go into our history books as one we all loved, yet we weren't there. I wish I had a big enough garden, so I could maybe throw my own party there, the same like Defqon.1. Sadly, the garden ain't big enough. Not by far. Anyway, Headhunterz's set. It's jam packed with catchy euphoric Hardstyle anthems. Anthems which will make you raise your hands in the air, and sing along to. Sing along, not MC to. That's maybe the only thing I don't like. But besides that, nothing negative to mention about this. The tracks themselves are as good as you would expect them to be. I do like Sian Evans' voice, it's a long time ago since I saw her at Innercity, as part of Kosheen. And now she dabbles into the Hardstyle world. her voice suits it extremely well. And now you would expect me to choose 'Dragonborn Part 3' as my favourite. You are wrong, oh so wrong. My favourite has got to be 'Scrap Attack'. The original still rocks, and the 2020 edit is quite good. It will never beat the original from many moons ago. It's nice to hear it's only an edit, and not a complete overhaul, because the track didn't need it. It's as good that it remains in my personal top 10 for many years. An all time dancefloor classic. I would urge you to check this set out, if you haven't already. The visuals are astonishing, it's just a feast not just for your ears, but also your eyes and soul. Fuck you COVID-19 for fucking up 2020. Fuck you. Thank you Q-Dance for Defqon.1! - SHOWTEK Classics Showcase Vol. 1 (2003-2006) (28.06.2020)
Sunday has arrived, the day after the COVIDIOTS have gone down the pubs and destroyed any chance of us getting back to normality. We just have to get used to the fact that we have to stay at home for a long time. So we have to make do with what's online, and today I've got a mix for you all, Early Hardstyle lovers. If you love your Hardstyle, you know Showtek. They used to produce Hardstyle, nowadays they aren't anymore. Don't even know what they are doing to be fair. To commemorate what they used to make, Audioholik made this appreciation mix. Full of their early work. From the golden years of Hardstyle. During these glorious years they had a lot of success, and have made memorable anthems. Those anthems haven't gone unnoticed, and even in 2020 people are loving those tunes. Audioholik's mix contain true Showtek anthems, and they will enlighten a spark inside of you. You really want to go back to those wonderful years. Showtek had a specific sound you could always rely on. So it's nice to hear those memorable anthems again. Take me back in time, Audioholik! Headliner - Speaka (Duro Remix) Showtek - Down With This Dutch Masters - 2 The Dance (Duro Remix) Showtek vs Gizmo - Bangin' Deepack vs Showtek - Rockin' Steady Duro - Psycho Hardheadz - Wreck This Place (Showtek Remix) Dutch Masters - Rock Beat Headliner - B.O.D.Y.P.U.M.P. (Showtek Remix) Showtek vs Gizmo - 3 Da Hard Way Dutch Masters - Insomnia Showtek - Colours Of The Harder Styles Methods Of Mayhem - F.Y.U. (Showtek Remix) Zany vs Duro - Our Power Lowriders - Don't Get Back Dutch Masters - Get Up Duro - D-Sucka Showtek - Braincrackin' Zany vs Duro - Dissin' Audioholik went all in, and choose the big dancefloor anthems. Didn't even know they had aliases. Back then we didn't have Discogs, or maybe we did, but I didn't even know of its existence. But only the last couple of years I do go on it, to find out that a lot of artists used a shit ton of aliases. Today is no exception. But deep down inside I should have known; they do have a specific style and sound, which you can attribute to Showtek. Yes, it might have been under an alias, but you can still tell it's a Showtek anthem. I do love it. Yes, the sound might have been a tad happier and upbeat, but it's still hard and rough when required. And Hardstyle was just this way back in the early years of the noughties. It was just like that. And we all loved it. Hardcore wasn't alive as much as it was earlier, and us hard heads still required something rough and wicked, hence why Hardstyle grew in popularity. I've got only praise for Audioholik's mix, and he has already received good feedback on Soundcloud. So why not go and have a listen to this mix. You might even like it. You might think that the Early sound is awesome. You might become me! Yes, I do prefer the earlier sound. The best track? The last one. Simple. Such a dope track. It would literally get the crowds loose their minds when this was played. A dancefloor smasher! Also, this mix is there for you all as a free download! How about that? - Blue Note Volume Five (2020)
It's Saturday, everyone! The weekend has landed. We can all let our hair down, and chillax. And what better way to do so, by just listening to exquisite Drum and Bass, mixed by our favourite DJ Selectabwoy. He's such a regular to this page, we should really dedicate a page to him. Maybe I should ask him to do an interview, to see what he's up to, and how come he always delivers wicked mixes? Maybe I could do that. But until then, let's focus on the latest mix I found on his page. This mix is already legendary. It carries the Blue Note name, which is a famous club, a club so famous, the Drum and Bass legends out there do talk about it, and praise it for having such an impact on the scene. I've never been, only read about it (in Goldie's autobiography) and heard about it in videos. Don't even know where it's located. But just seeing the name appear in a title, you know shit is about to go down. This name on its own has a lot of weight on its shoulders. But, this is quite unique, Selectabwoy has collaborated with someone called Roadblock. I should go out more, because that name sadly doesn't ring a bell. But for this mix, Roadblock provided the music, and Selectabwoy mixed it all together. It seems that Roadblock has a good ear, and knows good Drum & Bass tunes. Combine that with Selectabwoy's excellent mixing skills, and you get the fifth instalment of this mix series. If you are curious, and want to hear the previous instalments, check them out here! If you just want to see the tracklist, please proceed: Q Project & Spinback - L.E.D. (VIP) Deep Blue & Blame - Re-Transitions Jonny L - Underwater Communication Lemon D - Break It Up Hidden Agenda - Dispatches 2 Peshay - Vegas Dom & Rob - Distorted Dreams (Desired States Remix) John B - Starburst 1.1 Shimon & Andy C - Climate Control Nico & Makai - Omen Klute - Perceptron Matrix - Convoy Future Forces - Flash Gordon Ray Keith - Dark Soldier (Original Mix) Skyscraper - Liberty. 1 John B - Secrets Digital - Metro Matrix - Sedation Intense - Motions (VIP) Goldie - A Sense Of Rage (Sensual VIP Mix) Now, you see, I do love Drum & Bass, and I love the edgy and rough sound of it, and even though I do listen to a lot of DnB, I still find hidden gems on a daily basis. It's amazing to find new stuff every day. Literally, like every day! Most of the hidden gems are brought to me by Selectabwoy himself. Let's give this man all the credits he deserves. And honour him by listening to this yet another astonishing mix. What I like about this mix, is the fact that the selection is great. Roadblock, whoever you might be, you've got good taste. Together with Selectabwoy they have created this wicked mix. Full of inspiring tunes. And the good thing is, no matter how you are feeling, this kind of Drum and Bass will always make you feel things, and will make you feel great. So chilling, so relaxed. If I would be in the Blue Note, I wouldn't even be dancing. I would be standing on the dancefloor like a mummy. Super still, and letting the vibes take over my soul. I cannot imagine people dancing to this. This is to be listened to without any movement of body parts: this is music for the soul! Of course you should dance to this. I am talking bollocks. But me, sitting here at home (stupid COVID-19), I am enjoying the tunes, and absorbing the vibes. Not dancing at all. I am more of a listener, and can't dance for love nor money. I like this kind of DnB, and it makes me happy. Selectabwoy has done it again. This legend has given us yet another awesome mix. With only the finest anthems out there. I can only give the man that much credit. But he deserves everything. A flawless DnB mix, with some underground anthems, hidden gems, and you are in Heaven for an hour and a half. Thank you Roadblock and Selectabwoy. You should work together more often! And I should listen to DnB more often. More. Like 24/7. It's fucking wicked! - Scot Project - Melodia Sessions Guestmix (2019)
It's Wednesday, the week has been halved now. And what a week it has been. Today has been the worst day for me: most of the day I had to sit here without any internet. My provider had issues which they needed to resolve. Thousands of users couldn't go onto the world wide web, so I sat here, waiting until it returned, so I could continue WFH. I couldn't even go onto Soundcloud, my safe place on the web. I was bored. Really and truly bored. When the internet did return, I had to listen to something on Soundcloud. Scot Project's latest livestream set was one of the sets I really wanted to review, but at the moment it doesn't have a tracklist, so you have to be patient. But what I did find, was an older set by him for Melodia Sessions. I'm guessing that this is an online show? Never heard of this session before, but if they do play music similar to what Scot Project played in this mix, I should look them up. Scot Project does not need an introduction. He's a legend. A legend with dreadlocks. He always has the capability to make even the hardest Trance sound 'soft'. Since the early 2000s I have been following him, and I haven't found a mix made by him or containing records by him which disappointed me. I don't know what it is, but he's got this ability to make everything sound awesome! So I'm guessing this mix from last year is going to be good, eh? Here's the tracklist. Reflekt - Need To Feel Loved (Argy Remix) Stephen Kirkwood - Rainbow Six Marco V - Avalon Ruben De Ronde & Proof - Fade Away With Me (Key 4050 Remix) Giuseppe Ottaviani - Colours NG Resonance - Sinners (Alex Wright Dub Mix) Sied van Riel & Claudia Cazzacu - Contrasts (Dave Leyrock Remix) Marten De Jong - R3S3T Marten De Jong & Allen Watts - Caffeine Evan Pearce - Anubis NG Resonance - Riff Raff Jakob Rocksonn - We Don't Care Mark Sherry & David Forbes - Yerba Del Dial An hour long mix, and no bullshit. That's what I like to hear. He's crammed 13 records in an hour mix, so expect to be enlightened throughout this mix. A state of euphoria like you've never felt before. And boy, the tracks he has selected are truly astonishingly good! But I wouldn't expect anything else from Scot Project; he seems to have a knack for these kind of records. I really liked the vibes coming through my speakers. My day did go by quickly. But that's the power of Scot Project. He always delivers, never disappoints. His mixes are always spot on, and with this one he has proven again why he's the legend that he is. A true legend. It was hard to pick one favourite record out of these 13 smashing records. But I couldn't decide, I had two in the end. So here are my two favourite records of this mix: Marco V's 'Avalon' and Giuseppe Ottaviani's 'Colours'. You will understand why I have picked these: they are belters! A wicked mix. I hope his latest mix does get a tracklist, so I can share it with you all. But for now, go back in time (<1 year) and enjoy this mix. Fresh as the day it was made! - Fallout 4: A Game Changer (2015)
The reason that I became a revived gamer is because of this game, Fallout 4. Yes, it might sound weird, and truly unbelievable, but before 2018 I did not have a games console at all. Well, I did, but that was a long time ago. I used to own an Atari 2600, do you remember that? Are you old enough to remember that one? Between the Atari and the PS4, I never owned a games console, because I didn't like gaming that much. I was (and still am) a music lover, and music has always been my preference above anything else. But things changed during the course of 2018: I discovered a game on Youtube called Fallout 4. And it has changed my life completely. The wife bought me a Playstation 4 because of my talking about Youtube videos which were focussed on Fallout 4. Most videos I watched were made by Oxhorn, a well known Youtube creator. I fell in love with the game, and was happy enough just to watch all the videos, but after I received my PS4, which included a few games, I haven't looked back, and played many hours. And yes, I did also get Fallout 76, but let's not talk about that game: we are all aware of the disaster that is Fallout 76. I tried, believe me, I tried playing that game, but it wasn't what I was looking for in a game. When I had the Atari, I played many games over and over, but they were basic. Still fun, for the late 80s. Was I a gamer back then? Yes, I was. But simplicity was the key word for gaming back in the 80s. Nothing major was released, which involved quests. It was basically 'can you kill this?', and yes, that was your whole game (simplified). Obviously games have changed, and I even played on other consoles (which weren't mine). I even jumped on the bandwagon when Wolfenstein 3D was released. But it just didn't do anything for me. And that's a rarity in my life. Technology has always been my thing, but gaming, not really. You can imagine the excitement when I got the PS4 on Christmas day! I did not attend any other ventures that day: who needs food when you have got a brilliant games console with a few games? It came with Fifa, but I am not bothered about football in general, I find it the most boring and overhyped sport on Earth, so that's still clean, never used, in a draw somewhere. But the wife got me Fallout 4. Game changer that was. I got it set up on the PS4, and looking at the statistics of 2019 it was my most played game of the year, by far. But what makes Fallout 4 so special? I think the setting is just perfect. It's an open world game, with many quests and side quests, with plenty to do. And stunning graphics, it must be said. You can tell that Bethesda has spent a lot of hours in this game, creating it. Yes, the graphics don't appear to have aged well, compared to 2020 games, but I am an easy guy, and don't mind if the graphics aren't as good, as long as they don't resemble anything made in the 80s or 90s. I think the nuclear apocalypse as a whole appealed to me. A world that was created, focussed on the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse (who actually started it? was it P.A.M.? was it China, or the USA, or even Vault Tec?) and the sole survivor. The name is really not suitable, seeing as the character you (the survivor) is looking for, your son Shaun, is still alive (that was a huge spoiler though!). And certain aspects of the game don't make sense. But you can't have it all, eh? You are frozen in Vault 111, and you see your wife being killed, and your son being kidnapped. You go back into a cryogenic state, and wake up into a world of unknown. Fully unaware of everything that has happened outside of the vault, you are on a quest to find the killer of your wife, and your son. But instead of just doing that, the game has you playing a lot of quests with factions such as the Brotherhood of Steel, the Railroad, the Minutemen, and even the Institute. Here is where it becomes slightly messed up: you are looking for the killer, Kellogs, and you get rid of him. But to get there takes a long time, and side quests take you away from finding your son. You can be playing God knows how many quests before you actually focus on your missing kid again. And the character appears to not be bothered about his kid, unless provoked. That's odd: if my kid was missing, to hell with Preston Garvey and his settlement quests, I am going to find my son! During the game play you do go to several locations throughout Boston. Sanctuary Hills is the main location where the sole survivor used to live, but you have plenty of other locations to go to, like Goodneighbours, Diamond City, and if you have purchased the other DLCs, you can even go to Far Harbor. There's plenty to discover in the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse. Plenty of marked and unmarked locations. And you get the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people, who can become your companion, and you can even spark a romantic relationship with them. And here's the annoying thing: the companions you can choose from, can range from annoying and not really an added value to cute, adorable, and a good companion. Here are the companions you can use throughout the game: Codsworth - a friendly robot that is owned by the sole survivor, and remains active as a cleaning robot, long after the apocalypse has happened, yet his cleaning duties are really shocking: the players house is a sh*t hole. And his cheerfulness made me leave him in Sanctuary Hills. Preston Garvey - you meet him in the Museum Of Freedom, and he is truly the most annoying character of them all. He sends you to all these settlements, to bring peace and prosperity to the Commonwealth, yet it makes me wonder why he doesn't do all of these himself? He sends you all around Boston, to find new Minutemen settlements, and he never stops giving you jobs to do. Lazy sod. Piper Wright - a journalist you find outside of Diamond City. Don't really know her added value to my gameplay, I have not selected her because I don't like journalists in real life. She's got an interesting story, but meh, not that special for me personally. Cait - If you go to the Combat Zone, you can have her as your companion. She is a drug addict, and you need to help her overcome her fears, and her drug addiction. She comes with deep dialogue regarding her past. Fierce companion. I like her humour. Paladin Danse - a member of the Brotherhood Of Steel, with emotions ranging from 'bored' to 'die-hard killer'. You do find out that he's indeed a synth, and you get to choose if you want him to live, or die. An interesting character Dogmeat - everyone's favourite companion. A dog? Yes. A feisty dog. Never shy of trying to save the sole survivor. Not much dialogue with him. He can only do tricks. But you can spec him up with special dog armour! How cool is that? Strong - a super mutant who likes human milk. Really don't like him. Sadly, after you save him, you cannot kill him. I tried, God knows I've tried. Saving synths, yes, but no super mutant is worth saving, including this monstrosity. Old Longfellow - a miserable old man which you can find in Far Harbor. Make sure you download this added pack. Far Harbor has got many interesting quests. But Old Longfellow can remain in his hut. Porter Gage - Don't really know what to think. Every time I go to Nuka World, I never have him as my companion. Don't trust him. And on many occasions I eliminate him and all the factions at Nuka World. Boom, gone. Nick Valentine - now here's an interesting character you definitely should choose. He comes with a few quests, and even tries to help you find your son. And he's there for you, always. A nice and handy companion to have. Haven't tried to be romantic with him, don't even know that this is an option though. Deacon - he's odd. He's everywhere in the game, if you pay close attention. He lies a lot. He's part of the Railroad, but he can be a nice companion, if you see through his lies and deceit. John Hancock - a feral ghoul turned major. I liked him as a companion, a no nonsense person, who will show you in a minute of entering Goodneighbours that he doesn't take any crap from anyone. Robert MacCready - another companion with an interesting back story. Also linked to a previous Fallout game. Didn't spend much time with him. Curie - the most interesting and cutest of them all. Yes, my wife got shot in Vault 111, and I owe her my undying love, but sod that: Curie is the one I have as my companion the most. She is just adorable. She is a robot that wants to become human, and eventually you do get her as a human companion. That's messed up, but everything's possible in Fallout 4 Ada/Automatron/X6-88 - all these have not been my companion so far, I probably chose the wrong quest paths, and leave them where they are. And X6-88, who wants to join the Institute? They are evil, they took my son! Nuke them all! It depends on who you choose, with path you go on. The only one that has any interest in your back story is Nick Valentine, the mystery detective. But Curie is just the best. And her French accent is just so damn adorable. But that doesn't mean you NEED to have a companion. You can leave them at settlements, and wonder the Commonwealth on your own. Your life, your rules. What if you are a cat person and hate dogs? Leave Dogmeat where he should be. That's the good thing about this game, it can be as different as you can make it. This game also has a lot of opportunities to explore the Commonwealth. A lot of quests are there to be carried out, and a lot of mysterious locations, filled with super mutants, feral ghouls, gunners, and more. Never trust anyone, and always have your guns ready wherever you are. But also be prepared to start a war with a settlement if you shoot one of its residents by accident: I've done that many of times, and had to start fighting and killing nearly everyone. Covenant, you hear me? Don't mess with me. Whatever path you choose, the end will always be in the Institute. You decide what happens. You find your son, but will you help him? Will you help the Institute, or destroy it fully? How long do you support them? I've had many game plays where I simply killed my own son on the spot, and had the whole Institute against me. But those are choices you make. YOU, the player. This game also comes with a lot of interesting side things to do. Have you got a settlement? You can build walls, have settlers move into this new locations, create places for people to sleep, things for them to do. The world is your oyster. It does become annoying that you sometimes lack experience or materials to build something to completion, so certain settlements didn't have walls or even beds. And the settlers would let you know that they are complaining about lack of beds. Just sleep on the bloody floor! Super crabs, bugs, Deathclaws, scorpions, etc. You've got a lot of enemies in this game, and the only thing you want to do, is find your son! Even after waking up in Vault 111, the first thing you fight, are radroaches. You really get a sense that the world is a non-hospitable place, and you have to fight literally everything to stay alive. There's even a location on the map, which is called 'The Glowing Sea', where without decent protection, you cannot even survive without receiving radiation. The nuclear bombs did fall there, so it is the in-games Tsjernobyl. So far I have enjoyed explaining the game, but is it the best game ever? What are its weaknesses? Well, there are plenty. Here are a few that I can remember: Glitches - oh my days, there are plenty. Companions talking to you when they are stuck in a wall? Or even when you send Paladin Danse to Boston Airport. Try to find him! You can hear him talking and walking, but he's nowhere to be found. Bethesda sadly has a reputation of making games that contains glitches. Fallout 76 anyone? Saving Settlements constantly - even when you've got the best protections, the best turrets, biggest walls, etc. You have basically made it into a fortress, they still need your help. And it always happens when you are far away from them. You can give each settler the best available weapons, and they still won't make it without you being there. Preston Garvey and his quests - can there be anyone more annoying than him? He is just chilling in Sanctuary Hills, and sends ME out to the Commonwealth, to do his shitty jobs. Useless. And some quests are the same, over and over. Can no one survive without me? I am a survivor, came from a vault and my wife got killed, and my son kidnapped, and you can't fight off some super mutants? Go away! Game crashing - I've had that happen to me a lot. CE-34878-0 anyone? There are many pages on the internet filled with errors that this game has, and how to fix them. You might be fighting for a settlement, 5 super mutants surround you, you empty your gun, aaaannd.... the game crashes. CE-34878-0. Damn. The good thing is that this game has got mods available for you. Many contain fixes for any glitches that this game has. Be aware that downloading these might affect the game, and maybe even the game play itself. But you can have fun with a few mods. Or you can download add-ons, released by Bethesda themselves, which can give you a few new perks, player locations, quests, etc. They can even contain errors, but hey ho, you can't have it all. So what makes this game interesting? Choices. You have got many choices, and you have to make a lot of them. Who do you support? The Minutemen, Brotherhood Of Steel, The Railroad, or even the Institute? With them, you get a lot of quests, and the game feels like it goes forever and ever. If you play your card right, you can have hours of fun. With every level that you increase, you get to choose a perk you want to become better in. And there are a lot of them to choose from: The game gives you plenty of perks to choose from, and you will become stronger, and the game becomes more interesting. At a basic level you won't be able to open all the doors and terminals you find in the game, unless you have increased your skills on the perk chart. This obviously means that you sometimes need to revisit a location, if you want to open terminals, safes, etc. After a lot of hours playing (and even destroying the Institute) I have not had the opportunity to have each perk set up to the max. It does take some time. Another good thing that happens: once you finish the main quest, you can still continue playing. There's no limit, no ending. You are the hero, you have saved the world, and yet you still need to do shitty jobs for Preston Garvey, the lazy bastard. Or, just to be more into Fallout, you just start the game again, and be back in Sanctuary Hills, talking to the Vault Tec representative. The world is your oyster. Once you are sucked into this game, you spend many hours playing it. This game and previous instalments have gained huge popularity over the years, and I consider myself a fan. I've read everything there is, and have seen hundreds, or even thousands of videos, focussed on Fallout. I am truly in awe with this story, and how it turned into these games. I even played Fallout Shelter, but that became boring after a few weeks. This game got me 'back' into gaming. I still find it fascinating, and having played this over and over, I do find new things here and there. There are plenty of mods out there that give you the chance to play more quests, if you want that. But be aware, the more mods you have, the chance is that you have more errors than before. You can even have mods that mess up the game completely. Or even X-rated mods. But they don't appeal to me. You can make the game as interesting as you please. Even with the glitches, errors, etc, I still find this game highly enjoyable. It builds up nicely towards a brilliant 'ending'. It has grabbed my attention more than any other game I own, or ever owned. To me this game is special. Hence why Fallout 76 is such a disappointment. I don't like playing online, I like to be the 'sole survivor'. I want the world to be mine. Fallout/Bethesda, please make the next instalment like Fallout 4, but better. This franchise deserves it. And the following it has, wants it. I cannot stress the fact that this is a flawed game, but it does work. The Fallout franchise has gained me as a follower. Hell, I am even sitting behind my PC, typing this, with my Fallout t-shirt on. Respect for Bethesda for releasing this 5 years ago. It might have aged slightly, but it's still an enjoyable game. - 140 BASSMIX 2020
I've been listening to some Bassline music lately, and it has raised my enthusiasm in the sound again. The other day I listened to a mix by Burgaboy, today it's a mix by WillJC. Not sure who's behind the name and what he has done so far, but for now let's focus on the mix he has uploaded 4 days ago. A 140 Bassmix. Not just Bassline, but also Dubstep, and a bit of Rave music in it too. So if you love 140 BPM, this is just what you need to hear. According to the info underneath the mix on Soundcloud, this mix contains a few old and a few new records. Interesting. I've not been focussing on the scene that much lately, so its nice to hear some new anthems. But is Bassline the same as it was back in 2009-2010? Well, there's only one way to find: press play! It has already received good feedback on Soundcloud, so why not give this mix a go? This is obviously if you don't like Bassline music, or Dubstep. If that's the case, just leave the page right now, and go somewhere else. But those who love it, check out this tracklist: WillJC - Intro (Dub) Mintnite feat S4 - Calling Piddy Py feat K Dot - I'm Twist Mr C - Sticky VIP Dua Lipa - New Rules (Matty C Bootleg) (DUB) Kryphon feat Window Kid - Og Wow Palize - Jump In The Middle (DUB) Vandull - Blatant Banger M8 (Deadbeat UK Remix) Burt Cope - E Numberz (Phatworld Remix) Bru-C & Thorpey - Get On Your Bike Palize feat Kase - Overdose (DUB) Maroon 5 - Payphone (Phatworld & Squire Of Gothos Remix) Venz - Do Dem Tingz (DUB) J.G. - Killa Dub JMZ - Untitled (DUB) WillJC x Spliff Richard - Calypso Riddim VIP (DUB) Gin x Spliff Richard - Big Man Ting (DUB) Venz - What's Love (DUB) Phatworld x Thorpey feat Forca - Latency Superior Cornrows - Mugshot (Phatworld Round) Venz feat Mr Flo - Mek The Gyal Buss Gunfingers (DUB) Burt Cope - Weapon (DUB) Aweminus - Fried Piper Motus - Know Me (DUB) JG DUBZ - Modulator Skank Spesh 2 (DUB) Fix - Headshot (DUB) Motus - Monsters Secret Anthem 2019 (DUB) EMI ICE 6K - Harley Quinn (Emilian Wonk VIP) (DUB) JG DUBZ - Sosa (DUB) Aweminus - Frosty Witch Nips Gin - Going In (DUB) Takio - Raid Argo - Daredevil Motus - WUBBER MEISTER Jandi - Evolve (BLVNKSPVCE VIP) (DUB) I really liked the diversity that you can hear throughout the mix. Halfway through the mix it goes full on Dubstep mode. And it has put me in a difficult position: do I prefer Bassline/4x4 or Dubstep? Don't ask me that question, because the answer might astonish you. OK OK, peer pressure. Bassline is the style that I really love. Even though I'm the whitest person on God's given Earth, I do like it. I can't dance, I can't rave, I can't even buss (don't even know what that means), but the bass is just sick. So damn cool. And the one record that remained in my head the longest has to be 'I'm Twist' by Piddy Py feat K Dot. What a dancefloor slammer. I'm guessing that the dancefloors will be destroyed when DJs play this anthem. Don't get me wrong, Dubstep is ace too, but in this mix the Bassline anthems did more for me. I do like WillJC's mix. Fast paced, dancefloor slammer after dancefloor slammer. And ending with Dubstep, always a good thing. A few small mixing errors, but nothing major. I would urge you to give this mix a go. Again, if you don't like those styles, you can f*** off. But if you do like 'em, press play right now! - DJ Haston - Scott Brown Tribute (1995 - 2005) (2020)
It's Friday, another week finalised. It's time for the weekend ladies and gentlemen, time to let our guard down and chill. And I think I have found the perfect mix for you all. A Scott Brown mix, who doesn't appreciate that? I think the majority of UK Hardcore fanatics think that he's the biggest superstar in the scene anyway. Some might think it's Darren Styles, or Gammer, or whoever you have got in mind, but we all have to thank Scott Brown for bringing the Hardcore to us since the early 90s. Don't know when the others started, but Scott is probably the oldest DJ in the scene? All jokes aside, we all know how much of an impact he has had, and it's safe to say that he has got the most appreciation mixes on Soundcloud, period. And the mix you are about to listen to, is one of them. I think it's also a competition mix entry, which DJ Haston finished as runner-up. Didn't even know there was a competition. But hey ho, I am not a DJ, I am a blogger, so maybe that's why I missed it. This mix already gets a lot of love and appreciation from the listeners. And for all the right reasons. DJ Haston picked tracks from 1995 up until 2005, and crammed them into a fine mix. A very fine mix. And it does contain some of the obscure anthems: I am a Scott Brown fan, but there were tracks in this mix I had never even heard of! So I was in for a surprise. Check out this tracklist. Feast on this bad boy. Sub Source - The Hardcore Anthem Sub Source - Hardcore Euphoria Scott Brown - Systematic Scott Brown - Live Your Life Q-Tex - E-Creation (1995 Version) Bass x - Hardcore Disco Part 2 Lords Of Hardcore - Work That Sukka Technosis - Genorate (Scott Brown Mix) Ultimate Buzz - Check Da Bass (Scott Brown Mix) Scott Brown & DJ Dell - Inferno Scott Brown - Excitation (Album Mix) Scott Brown - Trance Sect (Album Mix) Scott Brown - Dum Dooby Dum Mr Brown - Pump Up The Bass Scott Brown - I Don't Need Nobody Scott Brown - Healing Mind Scott Brown - Check It Out Scott Brown - Hardcore Vibes Scott Brown - Techno Revolution Hardcore Authority - Definition Of A Bad Boy Scott Brown & Cat Knight - All About You Plus System - Prince Of Darkness Plus System - Do It Like We Do Scott Brown & DMO - Fade Away Scott Brown - The Stranger Interstate - Hardcore Hustler Scott Brown - Life Or Death Wow. This is something special. And it's got everything you need to get you through yet another weekend stuck at home. Not for long, hopefully we can get back into the raving festival season again. But please, stay safe, and rave safe! For now we have to make do with whatever is available online. And DJ Haston's mix is really a good one. Nicely mixed together, and also a nice build up to the rougher and tougher ending. This mix really contains big anthems, and a few unknown underground anthems. It's weird to think that Scott had so many aliases, I can't even remember half of them! But credit to Haston for having a nice and diverse mix. Obviously, being a Scott fan, the mix appeals to me. And I'm the worst critic, to be fair. Sorry Scott, but you have made a few 'meh' records too. Not a fan of 'Hardcore Vibes' (Dune's version is still better), and 'Do It Like We Do'. That record just pisses me off, the original song has got to be the worst song out there, ever. But this is only 2 records out of 27 records Haston picked, so don't worry, I'm not burning down this mix completely. I still really enjoyed this mix. A few tiny mixing errors, but they were tiny. Still a very good mix. Check it out right now, and let it lead your weekend! - Burgaboy - Instarave Live - 13.06.2020
I am a Bassline fan. Especially when you are talking about the golden years, which to me were 2008 - 2011. And guess what kind of music I'm going to talk about? That's right, a livestream, presented and mixed by Burgaboy. The Bassline whizzkid. He's much older now, but still has that specific sound. And during his livestream on the 13th of June he decided to play the finest tunes, the good ol' tracks. Yeah, why fucking not? Obviously it contains a few of his own productions, and a few other big classics. You won't be disappointed when you check out the tracklist. Maybe that's the reason why he looks so full of rage on the picture: he is just feeling the music, and he's going in hard. Or he needs the loo desperately. But let's focus on the mix, eh? If you are a Bassline head like myself, you will love this mix. The tracks are really big, and some I've not heard in a while. Don't hear or see a lot of 'early' Bassline stuff on Soundcloud. Hence why I was happy when I saw this mix by Burgaboy. And he was even kind enough to add a tracklist. What a nice man. Here's the tracklist I was talking about. Check it out: Benga & Coki - Night TS7 feat Addictive - Candy Rain Subzero - Get Milli Get Mad Lethal B - Pow 2011 Sia - Little Man (Wookie Edit) Subzero - Quarantine D Double E - Wooh Riddem Monsta Boy - Sorry Burgaboy - Honest Burgaboy feat BM - Are You Single? Bassboy feat Phe Phe - I Can't Get Enough Macca - 010 Spaceship Anthem Subzero & Piddy Py - Gangsta Vibes Burgaboy - Shining Star Mr C - Next To You TS7 - Real Raver Sub - Madman Fear Burgaboy - The Way You Walk Burgaboy - Unrelease Wookie - Battle DJ Total - Bongo Mashup Scream feat Slick Don - Flex Subzero - You Wot Dub Burgaboy - Runaway Burgaboy - TRC Dub Burgaboy - Never Gonna Stop Burgaboy - Water Wow. This brings back a lot of memories. I remember the days when I was so hyped up, and I was full into Bassline, I even was about to go to Niche, just to experience what everyone else was facing (I still lived in the Netherlands), but then Niche shut down. Bummer. I still remained in love with the sound, and even in 2020 the Bassline sound brings me joy and happiness. Burgaboy is one of those artists I really like. I even bought his album. Can't remember the name to be fair, but a quick Google search might help me.... 'BASSic Mixtape Volume 1'. That's the one. Whatever happened to volume 2? It's been 12 years, maybe time for a new instalment of this mixtape series? I did really like his productions, and thankfully we can find a few in here. Real dancefloor slammers they are. And the best one has to be the song by D Double E. What a fucking sick anthem. This is one of those songs that remains in your head for hours. He rhymes so damn fast, my brain can't even process what he's rhyming about! A nice mix. A few small mixing errors, but he went in hard, as the image shows. Really a nice jump back into time. Worth a listen, and worth a like on Soundcloud! - Bryan Kearney - Hard Trance Favourites Mix (2020)
If I'm completely honest with you all, I don't like to watch streams online. I get bored easily, and rather listen to it at my own convenience. As nice as it is, and seeing as it's the only way most people get their daily music fix, for me it's not what I want to see. I'm bored easily, and distracted easily too. So when livestreams are uploaded onto any Cloud, like Mixcloud or Soundcloud, that's when I get excited. It's weird, I know. But that's just me. Most of you lot prefer to watch a livestream, seeing as COVID-19 is an absolute pain in the rectum, and prevents us from going to raves. Bryan Kearney did a set in his kitchen, and I'm guessing he's done 4 prior to this one. Who would have thought that we would be watching a DJ do his thing in his own kitchen? A few months ago that would only be an upcoming DJ's stage, but now we do see those livestreams appear everywhere: kitchen, bedroom, attic, garden, anywhere basically. He did his in his kitchen, and the fifth episode was focussed on his favourite Hard Trance records. A few years ago this was my favourite style, and when I saw that he did a set containing records I truly love, I had to jump the bandwagon, and listened to his set on Soundcloud. I wasn't going to be disappointed. I've got to say, looking at the picture, he's got a nice kitchen. Yep, OK, the focus should be on the mix, not his kitchen. But it's nice. If anyone knows the manufacturer of the kitchen, let me know, I might be interested. Back to the mix. What kind of awesomeness has he selected for this mix? Are his favourite Hard Trance records the same as mine, and yours? Let's find out, shall we? Avatar - Red Planet (Reverb Mix) BK - Revolution Flutlicht - Icarus Saltwater - The Legacy (Alphazone Remix) Matt Silver vs Tony Burt - Teardrops (S.H.O.K.K. Remix) Dumonde - God Music (Cosmic Gate Remix) Dave Joy - First Impression (S.H.O.K.K. Remix) JFK - Good God Sioux - Pho DJ Kim - Jetlag (Alphazone Remix) Marc Dawn - Expander (Flutlicht Remix) Basic Dawn - Pure Thrust (Nu NRG Remix) Ian Van Dahl - Try (Onova feat Alphazone Remix) The Freak - The Melody, The Sound (Flutlicht Remix) Dumonde - See The Light Flutlicht - The Fall (Original Mix) Now this is a tracklist that excites me. Can't believe these are classics already, it seems like only yesterday they were released. But they are older than you think. Credit to mr Kearney, his selection is really as good as you can get it. Hard Trance all the way, baby! This takes me back to the late teens, early twenties, when I used to adore this kind of music. I really fell in love with it, and it has stayed with me for years. Hard Trance is one of those styles that cannot do anything wrong. I just adore the living f**k out of it. It's Trance, but slightly faster! Don't we all love Trance and we like things to be slightly harder? (don't have disgusting thoughts!). His selection is really great, and his kitchen mix is really good. I really love to hear those Dumonde records again. Whatever happened to Dumonde? Can't remember what happened to them? Did I just not follow them? I've lost track of Dumonde.... And it's also great to see a few Flutlicht records in here. Gosh, Bryan's mix is really something. I've got to give him credit for this awesome mix. And the best of the best was in here too! Obviously a Dumonde track: 'See The Light'. What a slammer! Go and grab this mix right now! It's also available as a free download. So what are you waiting for? - DJ Promo Megamix (2001)
So, this mix happened. Well, not that I had any say in it, but what I'm trying to say is that this mix nearly landed on my lap. Jason S, the megamix master, mentioned on his social media pages, that he had a mix online, which he made back in 2001, and it was as ridiculous as you have guessed it: 58 tracks in an hour long mix. All DJ Promo records. You couldn't make this stuff up. This stuff is made by legends! We all know Jason S from his mighty megamixes, and this is year another one we can add to our already existing music catalogue. And we all know DJ Promo. The ultimate Hardcore legend. The man who gave us literally thousands of songs (well, not that literally), and his music shaped our youth. It gave me music to dance to. And he was really experimental. He did what no one else did, and he just said 'fuck it'. He was the inventor or this Promo sound, and the Promo files resembled that specific sound. You can tell a track has been made by him. Promo has been a stable producer for the Hardcore scene since the mid 90s, and has given us many memorable dancefloor anthems. The dancefloor became Hardcore because of him. He had the natural capability to make nearly each and every song work. Be it Hardcore, Happy Hardcore, Industrial, you name it. He is a master of his craft. And the best thing of it all? He created memories! A memory to each song he created. You can hear them, and immediately get goosebumps, and it will also take you back to the 90s/00s, raving in a field, or a massive hall. He's gifted, you know. So let's see this massive tracklist. I wish copy-pasting was easier, but sadly it's not going to be easy. So here we go: Jason S - Intro : DJ Promo Megamix From The Darkside DJ Promo - Back In Time DJ Promo - Metal Warfare DJ Promo - What The Fuck? DJ Promo & DJ X-Ess - Vicious Circle DJ Promo - Counter Attack DJ Promo & Trickstyle - What U Want DJ Promo - Patterns In Chaos DJ Promo - Up Yours! DJ Promo - Emotions Over Anger DJ Promo - Life From The Other Side DJ Promo - I Come Correct DJ Promo - X-Termination DJ Promo - System Feedback DJ Promo - Broaden Our Minds DJ Promo - 20.000 Freaks DJ Promo - The Industry Can't Stop Me DJ Promo - The Bad Guy DJ Promo - King Of Pain DJ Promo & Catscan - Midnight Impact DJ Promo - Dancefloor Hardcore DJ Promo & Catscan - Battle Of The Sexes DJ Promo - My Underground Madness DJ Promo - Driven By Instinct DJ Promo & Catscan - Chaos In The Flesh DJ Promo - My Recipe For Disaster DJ Promo & Catscan - Virgin Territory DJ Promo - Running Against The Rules DJ Promo - Bullet From My Gun DJ Promo & DJ Bike - No Commercial Sound DJ Promo - Can You Thrill Me? DJ Promo & Digital Boy - Serious Damage DJ Promo - Procurer Of The Cure DJ Promo - Different Breed Of Men DJ Promo - Phreak Ya Speaka DJ Promo & DJ X-Ess - Guns 'n Ammo (Under Construction Mix) DJ Promo - Just A Feeling XXX Rated - Mad-Donna DJ Promo & DJ Delirium -Bass Power DJ Promo - It Runs Deep Part 1 DJ Promo - It Runs Deep Part 2 DJ Promo - Cheating Bitch (Dedicated) DJ Promo - Cold As Stone DJ Promo - Can't Hold Me Down DJ Promo - Feel The Thunder DJ Promo - Beat Ya Brain Again DJ Promo & Solo - Psycho Style DJ Promo - This Underground Sound DJ Promo - Kill Tha Noise DJ Promo - I Wanna Freak You DJ Promo & Ming - From The Darkside DJ Promo - Shit To Die For DJ Promo & Da Vinci - Sing It Louder DJ Promo - Boomin' Out The Box DJ Promo - Shut Up! DJ Promo - The Incredible DJ Promo & The Judges - I'm The Law Jason S - Outtro: Signing Off Now this is a beast of a tracklist. So f**king full of DJ Promo stuff, all from the golden years of Hardcore. This literally takes me back to my youth. When I was a teenager, DJ Promo was my ultimate hero. His music touched so many souls, and kept ravers dancing, all over the world. Is DJ Promo Hardcore? He sure hell is! Obviously it contains the biggest hits by DJ Promo, like 'Phreak Ya Speaka', 'Can't Hold Me Down', 'My Underground Madness' and more, but also the kind of less famous anthems. Jason S's job to make this all work well has paid off. This 68 minute long mix is indeed what I needed. There are many DJ Promo megamixes online, even made by the legend himself, and this is a nice addition to the already existing mix database. I cannot get enough of his music. It was hard to pick one favourite anthem out of these 56 wicked and truly remarkable pieces of art. But after consideration, I have selected one: 'I'm The Law'. I know I know, a very controversial decision, but it's mine. There were simply too many to choose from, and hell, I was a fan of Sylvester Stallone back in the 90s, and Judge Dredd was a kick ass film. So ner. Anyway, however you look at this mix, it's fantastic. Maybe tiny little errors, but nothing to be worried about. I wish this WASN'T a megamix, but a normal length sized mix. I wish the records would be longer than 1 minute. But that's just a dream. I could listen for hours to DJ Promo's records. A true living legend. Captured nicely by Jason S' another smashing megamix from 2001! - klassiks #1 (mixed by stranger) (2012)
It is time for Techno. Well, that's basically every single day. Every day we should all listen to Techno at least once. And today I've got a golden oldie for you all. A mix made by stranger, 8 years ago. Not only is the mix an oldie, but also the tracks he has carefully selected for this mix. Pure unadulterated Techno. And today is the perfect day to listen to Techno: I am off, and the weather is atrocious. Perfect Techno day. Dark and edgy, that's today. I don't know how this ended on my Soundcloud feed, but I think stranger himself reposted it. So thank you stranger for doing that. Let's focus on his mix. According to the info that comes with this mix, it's an hour long and it contains (un)known classic anthems. And he didn't lie as such: the majority of these records are unknown to me. Of course I know the biggest dancefloor anthems like 'Mentasm', 'Three O Three', 'Energy Flash', etc, but he also included a shit ton of obscure underground classics. And after hearing this mix for the fourth time in a row, I can conclude that the end result is a wicked and astonishing mix. stranger has done a good job in entertaining the listeners with this Techno classic mix. So what kind of classics are in this mix? Well, here's the tracklist for you: Centerfield Assignment - Mi-Casa (Mi Condo Mix) R.S.H. - Laughing While Intoxicated (Dope House Mix) E-Dancer - Pump The Move 33 1/3 Queen - Searchin Second Phase - Mentasm Speedy J - Minimal F.U.S.E. - Substance Abuse Gregory Dewindt - Untitled Robert Armani - Overload Joey Beltram - Forklift Planetary Assault Systems - Funk Electric Aphex Twin - Quoth Dave Clarke - Wisdom To The Wise Steve Bicknell - Untitled (Lords Of Afford Mix) i Technasia - Cyclone Thomas Bangalter - What To Do DJ Hyperactive - Wide Open Traxmen - Trax 4 Da Women Dave Clarke - Protective Custody Paul Johnson - Let Me See You Butterfly Public Energy - Three 'O Three Surgeon - Magneze Ben Sims - The Loops (A2) Adam Beyer - Remainings III Barrow Boy - Genesis 45 King - 900 Number (Acapella) James Ruskin - Work (Steve Rachmad Remix) Ben Sims - Battle Beats One (A3) Tikkle - Bubbles Joey Beltram - Energy Flash Jeff Mills - Reverting X-313 - Cybernator Rino Cerrone - Rills 04 (A4) Circuit Breaker - Trac-K Planetary Assault Systems - Gated Thomas Heckmann - Nine-O-Nine Surgeon - Badger Bite Gateway Experience - Twin Freaks (Third Time) Brother From Another Planet - Planet Earth V-Room - Sonic Jungle Ben Sims,Phil Vernol, Rob Jarvis - Killa Bite 1 (A1) Edge Of Motion - Set Up 707 DJ Funk - XTC 2 (A3) Benny Rodrigues - Woest Joey Beltram - 5.7 Litre Pimps In Garderbelts - Spunk The Techno fanboys and girls are probably experiencing an orgasm right now, after seeing this tracklist. It's jam packed with tracks by the biggest names: Joey Beltram, Speedy J, Thomas Bangalter, Robert Armani, Ben Sims, Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, and many, many more. Good choice, stranger. I love Techno. And it doesn't matter if it's light or dark. As long as it's Techno, I am a happy person. And this mix has really made me a happier person. My God, the amount of awesome records in this mix is beyond me. And yes, the majority I am not aware of, but that really doesn't matter much, as long as the outcome is positive. And this mix has given me good vibes, and that's all positive! The best record in this mix? Difficult. Obviously I want to choose one of the most known Techno anthems, but I'm choosing one you might disagree with: Planet Assault Systems with 'Gated', closely followed by Jeff Mills' 'Reverting'. These two are simply the best. Another epic mix by stranger. And it's a free download too, so why not make this Friday an even better day, and listen to this classic Techno filled masterpiece? - Lee UHF - YinYang Festival - Great Wall Of China - June 2019
I knew that this event existed, but it was still beyond belief that an event takes place on the Great Wall of China! It's like no place on Earth is free from partying: if people can dance, they shall dance! Not saying that I'm against it though, I want people to dance, and express themselves. But what's next: the tower rave of Pisa, the Eiffel Tower mad party, the tree hugging event at Babylon? I'm just not sure anymore, humans can do literally anything, and no wall will stop them. Obviously, due to COVID-19, the event isn't happening this year, and that's a shame. But understandable. OK, so we need to see last year's line up to get an idea of what you could expect people dancing to on this humongous wall. To be fair and completely honest, I don't know the majority of these artists, only know Dirtbox, Voodoo, MC Swift, and that's it. Well, that's a coincidence, Lee UHF has just uploaded his recording from 2019's event. How lucky are we? The set was around 48 minutes long, and contains 26 records. And it does contain ravers on the Great Wall of China. Still unbelievable to think that this happens on a regular basis. So damn cool though. China itself wasn't open to the world until only recently, and look what has happened in a short period of time! Never stop enjoying parties, China! That's so cool of you! Benny L - Dogs Bark Calyx & Teebee - War Dub Agressor Bunx - Breathless Agressor Bunx - Rolling Akov - Growing Pains Kanine - GO Dub Elements - Foreign Zinc - 187 Trec Komander Ground, Kutlo & Jimmy Danger - Bassline Habitat Chase & Status - Disaster Danny Byrd - Devil's Drop Chase & Status feat Cocoa Tea - Burning Serum feat Spyda - All Ganja Man Shy FX feat Stamina MC & Lily Allen - Roll The Dice Frankee - Skuttle Kusp - Shook Jay Walker - Techno Rodeo Kanine feat Duskee - Warface Annix feat Ragga Twins - Slaughtered (Ozma Remix) Kolt - Outbreak ID - ID DJ Hazard & D Minds - Mr Happy DJ Phantasy x Macky Gee - Let It Shine (VIP) TC - Ride Evol Intent - Dead On Arrival UK- Dimension It's still amazing to think that people raved to Drum and Bass on the wall! I just can't picture it. I know it has happened though, but from it being a wall to protect people to a wall for ravers, that's just so insane! I have to say that Lee UHF's set is really interesting. A vibrant set, surely keeping those who were there awake and dancing. This 48 minute set was really a rollercoaster ride of emotions. From the harder and rougher to the more melodic Drum and Bass. Everything was in this mix, including the ravers screaming on the wall. A lot of excellent anthems Lee has used for his extraordinary set. A few tiny errors, but you have to understand it's a liveset, and anything can happen. I think that he was still blown away by the location? But during his set the best record by far has to be 'Let It Shine'. I do prefer the original version slightly more, but still, a good version of a very catchy anthem. I'm not going to deduct points for the few small errors. They were really small, and not bothered me at all. It's still a highly enjoyable set, and Lee UHF has also given it to us for free (you can download this bad boy). Whilst you are at it, why not check out his home streams on there? You can find a lot of sets on his page that you might enjoy too?! - Booka Shade - Movements (2006)
Sometimes you buy an album, and without having any opinion about it prior to purchasing it, it grows on you, and stays attached for the rest of your life. This is the case with the Booka Shade's album which was released back in 2006. I can't remember why I bought this album, but I did. I think at that time I was in love with their song 'Body Language', and I wanted to try something new and exciting. So I bought this album, not really knowing a lot about the duo Booka Shade. Since 2006 it's been in my possession, and it has remained in my possession ever since. It's one of those albums you don't want to throw away, because the music is so damn good. I do mean it though: this album already gets 5 out of 5 stars from me. You don't need to read the rest of this review. 5 out of 5, that's a brilliant score, but it's a brilliant album, take it from me. I have never seen them live, or even heard of them after this album. Maybe I might have done, but I cannot remember. But whatever happened after 2006, 'Movements' stuck with me. With it's already exciting and quirky arty cover, the music is also highly experimental. Electro and Tech House focussed songs. And you can hear influences from other artists in each song. But they still remain unique, and exciting. The calm and soothing sounds are still fresh to me. So let me show you the tracklist, if you are bothered: Booka Shade - Night Falls Booka Shade - Body Language // Interpretation Booka Shade - Paper Moon Booka Shade - The Birds And The Beats // At The Window Booka Shade - Darko Booka Shade - Pong Pang Booka Shade - Mandarine Girl (Album Version) Booka Shade - Take A Ride Booka Shade - Wasting Time Booka Shade - In White Rooms Booka Shade - Hallelujah USA Booka Shade - Lost High The tracklist isn't that exciting, unless you are aware of their big hits such as Mandarine Girl and Body Language. Hell, if you know who they even are, you might be excited. But if you've never heard of Booka Shade before, this tracklist won't do a single thing. This album is as mellow as you can expect it to be. It does contain really cool dancefloor hits, but I think the majority of these anthems are to be listened to in a nice, chilling environment. Like in a cafe, or a nice lounge bar, or even at home. This music takes your mind into another dimension, and relieves you of any stress and anxiety. It might be weird for me to say, but my favourite record of this album, well, it's not either of their biggest hits. And it's not what you would expect from me. It's 'At The Window', closely followed by 'Darko'. Whenever I hear 'At The Window', my mind just goes places, and I can sit here, in complete silence, enjoying the music, and let my thoughts ponder. I really wanted to share this album with you, seeing as it's in my Top 10 of all time greatest albums - list. Should I call the list 'TCD's 10 Finest Albums'? Whatever list, it's on there. I really enjoy this album, even 14 years after its original release. And someone was nice enough to upload the whole album onto Youtube, for us all to enjoy. So if you are after a very relaxing Saturday, let Booka Shade take you places! - Autobiography Of A Rave Kid Part V (2020)
It's Monday, and work has already been a bliss. Not saying that I dislike the weekends, but truth be told, last weekend hasn't been great. Insomnia has killed me. Being awake hasn't done me well. At least working from home got me doing stuff. But working hours are over, and it's time for me to wind down. The best kind of music to wind down to, has to be Rave music. Listen to me, hear me out. I'm not talking about the fast paced, 200+ BPM driven Rave music. I'm talking about the mellow Rave music. Once you see the tracklist, you know it makes sense what I'm saying. So what kind of music should I be listening to? Rave music. But which kind? Present day stuff, early stuff, Millennium stuff? Well, whatever Selectabwoy throws at me, that's what I'll be listening to. And as usual, he has uploaded yet another cracking mix onto Soundcloud, filled with his own personal favourite anthems. This time it's focussed on the Rave with a trancey/technoey/housey vibe. Yep, those are all words from the dictionary, look 'em up. He always delivers, never disappoints. He should name his Soundcloud page exactly that. I've been following him for a few years now, and he's fire! I even voted for him during last year's DJ Mag top100. I am a fan boy. A fan boy of Selectabwoy. And his latest mix shows us again why he's a legend. He always, and I mean ALWAYS, gets good feedback from the listeners on Soundcloud, and his mixes are reposted and retweeted and what else over and over again. And yes, I do that too. How else do you think I've become such a fan boy and hear about his latest mixes? Not stalking though. Time for the tracklist, and it's a good 'un. Why is that, you might ask? Well, because for his latest instalment of his successful mix series 'Autobiography Of A Rave Kid' he has picked records of artists that I have never even heard of. And by that, I mean I know the artists, but not these songs. You'll know what I mean. You probably know these artists too, and will mainly remember them of their famous big hit, and these are sadly forgotten. No worries, Selectabwoy is here, saving us! Transformer 2 - Pacific Symphony Moby - Go (Delirium Mix) Rhythm Invention - Chronoclasm Psychotropic - Hypnosis Time Warp - Bird Rave The Future Sound Of London - Stolen Documents Coda - The Acid Test (Early Morning Mix) Nexus 21 - Self Hypnosis LFO - You Have To Understand Techno Grooves - Christ!! GTO - Pure (Energy) Nico - Field Of Vision Meng Syndicate - Sonar System (Speedy J Remix) Jam & Spoon - Keep On Movin' Nightmare On Wax - A Case Of Funk Colin Dale - Kowtow (F.X.T.C. Mix) Now that's a wicked looking tracklist. Most of the artists on here I know, but the records Selectabwoy has selected, are unknown to me. They do sound familiar, might have heard them before in other mixes/livesets. But it just surprises me that every time Selectabwoy amazes us with yet another splendid mix. And how does he find these rare and obscure underground anthems? I love this mellowed out Rave music. Not obnoxious or annoying at all. This would be the perfect music to hear 24 hours a day, and it wouldn't become annoying. And because it's not hard as hell, you can even have this on in the background, and you wouldn't offend anyone. Lovely relaxing music. Good selection, Selectabwoy. I have only good and positive feedback for this mix. This is more like me, the European. This is what makes me tick. This is what makes me happy. A 53 minute long mix, with absolute slammers mixed together. Another wicked job, Selectabwoy. Best record. That's difficult. I did like 'Self Hypnosis', 'Sonar System', 'Pacific Symphony', but the best one has to be 'Field Of Vision'. Lovely bit of acid sounds poured into this record. Lovely jubbly! - Aeon Mix Session Hard NRG (2020)
It's Sunday, and my sleep was horrible. So I'm back behind my PC, even though I wanted to play on the PS4. But no, we are reviewing again. And this time, I simply had to. DJ Aeon even contacted me via Facebook to say that he added a tracklist, as he knows that I won't review any without a list. He's right: there must be at least 1000 mixes out there which I do not review, but wish I could review them. But hey ho, if the DJ doesn't want the fans to know which tracks they used, cool. So today's mix is one focussed on Hard NRG, a style we don't have on here very often. To be fair, I do like the style, but not a massive fan. But I still appreciate it though. DJ Aeon decided to do mixes with his personal favourite music styles for each individual mix. This time it's a Hard NRG mix, and he's obviously done Freeform mixes too. Don't mind the Freeform, but today I wanted to hear his latest mix. And so should you, if you fancy a bit of Hard NRG on this lovely morning. The tracklist contains records that Aeon really got to love over the years. So you can find a whole lot of tracks he loves. So let's dive straight into the tracklist: Amber D & Random But Raw - True North Aaron James & Seanie Jackson - Belief Dramatik - Pusherman Risa & Polaritia - Raise Your Hands Asylum - Inhuman Grady G - United States Of Massacre Random But Raw & Anna K - Time To Be Bad Grady G - Biker Slut Alchemiist & Decision vs B.R.K. - NRG Never Dies Tom Parr - Coming Home (Grady G Remix) Random But Raw - The Achet (Alchemiist & Decion Remix) Risa - Air Strike Alchemiist & Decion - Hunted To Death Alchemiist & Decion vs B.R.K. - Firelink Alchemiist & Risa - Malice This has certainly woken me right up. It's nice to wake up to something I normally wouldn't wake up to. I do get certain Freeform vibes here, but that's because Hard NRG and Freeform are basically linked to each other. Especially by artists who dabble with both styles, like Alchemiist. Aeon's selection is really great. I'm really loving the vibes. It's fast paced, high energy filled music (hence the name of course), and it has given me a boost in the early hours of Sunday. It has been mixed nicely together, got to give Aeon credit for that. If you dig Hard NRG, the place to be is here. Aeon's mix is filled with a lot of reoccurring names like Grady G, Alchemiist, but it's still quite a diverse mix. The flow is really good, and it's an hour and 40 seconds of Hard NRG. You really don't have the time to sit still: this music keeps you going on and on. I really enjoyed this mix. Can't wait for more mixes by Aeon. See what other styles/genres he likes, besides Hard NRG and Freeform. Worth a follow on Soundcloud, wouldn't you agree? The only downside to this mix is it's size. 654 MB? Wow. I need to clear up some space to have this beast on my hard drive! - Drokz @ Thunderdome 2019
Today I'm experiencing a Terrorhead moment. I cannot stop listening to Terror music. And of course when you want to hear Terror music, you go to Opa Drokz. The legend. The mighty grandad of Terror music. He played last year on the mainstage of the legendary Thunderdome event, which took place in the Jaarbeurs, in Utrecht, and if you weren't there because the tickets were sold out, you must have been watching the livestream at home. If you are experiencing any side effects of NOT going to parties, why not go to Youtube and watch the sets which have been put on there, in blooming 5K quality! I've got two new monitors, and I can see everything so clearly now: it's like the lasers are going off in my living room! It's like I am actually there. But sadly I wasn't. Would have extremely awesome, and besides the mainstage, I would have been in the Thundergods area, or the Heroes Of Hardcore area. The line up for the mainstage on its own looked impressive: Access One, Evil Activities, Tha Playah, Mad Dog, Dither, Angerfist/MissK8/Never Surrender/Nosferatu, N-Vitral, Sefa, Dr Peacock & Partyraiser, and of course Drokz (with surprise act DJ Akira). Drokz, the legend,I wish I could see you more often. It's been too long since I last saw you perform. I need the Terror, and sadly there aren't that many events in the UK that you play at. I've interviewed him before for my website, but I cannot get enough of him and his music. So when I discovered his set on Youtube, I was a happy man. And someone composed a tracklist for me (well, not just for me). Happy days! Here's the tracklist of his set which ended the Thunderdome mainstage. Drokz - Ode Aan de Gabber Dione - Pain Till I Die (SRB Remix) w/ Razor Edge - Deathrow (KRTM Remix) Darrien Kelly - All About Loungin' (Drokz Gabber Bootleg) Drokz - Moet Nie Mauwe (DJ Tool) Drokz & Day-Mar - Our Song Stormtrooper - Todesvogel (Mr Courage & Drokz Remake) Vandal!sm feat Sedutchion - Drums Of War DJ Mad Dog - Reset 3 Steps Ahead - Gangster Nosferatu - Poppin' Pistols Drokz - This Is Dedication Proactive HC - Definition Of Hard Drokz - The Understream (Remix) Detest - The Return SRB - War Machine Detest - The Hunter Drokz - Demonstrate Detest, Drokz, Akira & Thrasher - Le Violence Never Back Down HKV Dubplate VIP HCM - Ready To Attack Hellfish & Bryan Fury - Fuck Everybody Drokz - Stamppot Met Gehaktbal The Satan - Destroy Everything Nosferatu - The Pain Dolphin - Hong Kong Ping Pong Drokz - Phonking Like An OG Hellfish & Akira - The Sixteen Drokz - The Vietnam War Hellfish - Steel Fishfinger (Sweet & Sour Remix) Drokz & Furyan - Worst Enemy Neophyte & Drokz - Sloop Die Speakers (Thunderdome 2009 Anthem) So this happened. Will you look at this, mate! This is literally everything crammed into an hour long set! Not just Terror, but a bit of Hardcore, Gabber, Uptempo, and God knows what they call it all nowadays. This has been the best hour of today, that's for damn sure. And the picture quality has been extremely good! DJ Drokz is a legend. Not only is he the 'voice' of Thunderdome (the roar), but he's been there since the early days. He's so damn old but so hard, they won't even allow him in an old people's retirement home. He will freak out the other elderly people.Imagine being with Drokz in a retirement home. He will blow everyone's artificial heart into a billion pieces. Can't picture him doing bingo or just sit in an armchair, doing nothing. Drokz is Hardcore, and so are we. The set starts with a smashing intro. And the way it has been coordinated with the lightning department is just pure quality. You jut feel that shit is about to happen. It must have given Drokz goosebumps, walking onto that mainstage, and getting the place knocked down for the last hour. He literally killed it. The set was wicked, the music he selected has been really dope as fuck. I would normally complain that there weren't many people raving their arses off, but to be fair it was 6 o'clock in the morning, and most of them raved from 10 o'clock in the evening before, so they were knackered as hell. They still stayed, because they didn't want to miss Drokz's set. But they were treated to a wicked Terror/Hardcore set. One they won't easily forget. It was an easy choice, selecting my favourite record from Drokz's set. It's Darrien Kelly's song, remake by Drokz. The original is a wicked anthem, but Drokz made it a 'tandje harder'. And fucking hard it is. Really liking this newer version. Drokz is a legend, and this set is one of my most favourite Drokz sets. This one and the previous set at Thunderdome 2017 (was it then, not sure) with Partyraiser. That one was awesome too! Sadly never came with a tracklist. You cannot download this, but still enjoy it in high quality. Enjoy it, and bring Thunderdome back into your house. Stay at home, stay safe! But still, keep on raving! Wherever you are. - My Vauxhall Corsa 2017 - Diamond Edition
London, United Kingdom Regular viewers to my social media pages (like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and more) are fully aware of the fact that I own a Vauxhall (Opel) Corsa from 2017. True to my new website, and the fact that I've had it for about 2 1/2 year now, I think it's time for me to review the beast that I call Charles Corsa, but the wife disagrees. She calls it Charly. So there. Time to review our purchase made in January 2018. I have had a few cars in the past, and the first one I started with, was a Opel Astra 1.2l Bordeaux Red, and I made some small modifications. Truth be told, they looked absolutely horrible. But I did not have thousands to spend on it, so I did things on the cheap. It was cool back then, but now, not really. After that I owned a VW Polo 1.0l Lime Green, a Renault Twingo 0.8l Bordeaux Red, a Volvo S40 1.8l Red, and one Bordeaux Red, and a Mazda 2 Grey. I had to buy the Mazda, because of an accident I had with the Volvo. But the Mazda, as spacious as it was, it was a car with a lot of hidden mistakes and defects, and I think I spent about 3k on repairs. When the clutch went, I decided to get rid of it entirely, and I needed a vehicle to replace it. But money is an option: my back yard isn't filled with money trees. What should I choose? My colleagues at the time gave me ideas. A lot of them. Seeing as I worked for a company hired by Opel/Vauxhall, the idea of purchasing a Vauxhall was easily made. But which one? It should have 5 doors, but I wasn't fussed about the engine, or anything else. It should be able to take me from A to B, and preferably back. We (me and the wife) went to Thurlow Nunn, our closest Vauxhall dealership, and found a Corsa, pre registered. But it still had done 10 miles, so it was brand new. To keep a long story short, we decided to get it. A Diamond Edition. Good engine. Exquisite interior, and funky exterior. I was so happy, I don't think I slept at all days before we would be given the key. The day came, and I collected the vehicle. And I've driven it a lot since January 2018. To be precise: we are currently at 49k miles. I thought I was going to reach 60k miles at the end of the Warranty period, but due to COVID-19, that's not going to happen. But the 49k have been a bliss so far. It does come packed with everything you need. A good stereo system, heated front screen, seats, and steering wheel. Airconditioning. Half leather interior. Automatic light system. Alarm (obviously). Intellilink system. And it all works. It just does. And that makes me happy. It has been the purchase of the century for me, personally. It was worth every penny. But seeing as I've got some insight into the Warranty rules and regulations, I do maintain this vehicle extremely well. Always make sure that you service it on time, and as per manufacturing given intervals. Bird dirt on the car? Clean it! Don't leave it on there, or it might damage the paint, which isn't a manufacturing defect, but more caused by external influences. Clean the car every so often. Why not? It gives you the satisfaction that you are looking at a car that might be 2/3 years old, but still looks as shiny as the day it left the factory in Spain. But it is important to maintain the vehicle well. Always have the services done on time, and correctly. Yes, you might go to your local garage around the corner, but let him/her use the correct spec oil, filter, etc. It is important: any incorrectly used parts might damage the vehicle, and it might not be a manufacturing defect, covered under Warranty. So what I do, is go to where I purchased the vehicle from, Thurlow Nunn in Luton. And I get a good service, every time. But has it been all joy? Nope. As cool as the diamond edition is, with its fancy wheels, it isn't. I damaged the wheel slightly, so I wanted to have it repaired, but it turns out that not all companies can repair this. Only specialists can do this. Bummer. And one of the main missing pieces from the vehicle was an arm rest. It didn't come with one. And at first it didn't matter, because my journeys to and from work were alright, but I have changed jobs, and now I sit a total of 4 hours+ every day in the car, and if you don't have a centre armrest, you are buggered. But don't fear, Vauxhall is here! Thurlow Nunn ordered one for me, and I fitted this myself. And with my two left hands, I did do it. And it has been a life changing bit. My journeys won't be any shorter, but more pleasant. What are the good thing about this car, compared to my previous vehicles? Well, there are many good things. The engine is good. The car's interior is good. The boot space is good. The stereo is good. I am happy, whenever I look at it. It just looks so damn good, doesn't it? (please look at the images below, and comment below if the car looks good or looks like garbage): Some images are taken from when the car was new, and some were taken after it had already been used for a while. And you can tell that I keep the car in good condition. Even the interior. The floor mat driver side had a small hole in it, and I purchase one from Thurlow Nunn, and that has been pleasant ever since. I know that this is caused by wear and tear, due to the usage pattern of the vehicle. So I've driven it excessively, and can say in all honesty that I do know the car's good and bad points. Don't worry: if you are thinking of buying one (not the new Corsa E), you might need to keep this in the back of your mind. Use it, but don't follow it by heart. One of the issues is the space in the back. I'm 6.0 feet, and I've got long legs, so I've got my seat really far back. This limits the space for anyone sitting behind me. No, I'm not laying down, the back bit is still fairly straight, but the whole seat is so far back that a 6.0 feet person wouldn't be able to be comfortable sitting behind me. If you are a smaller person or you have got shorter legs, this might not be an issue for passengers. Another small thing I have noticed is the storage. The dashboard storage is limited. The actual service booklet doesn't even fit in it. It's that small due to the fuse box being put there. And there's no storage surrounding the steering wheel. I would have liked more storage, but due to me fitting an armrest (which comes with a small storage compartment) it's all sorted now. The only manufacturing defect I encountered, was when the front bumper sensor was going off randomly, when I wasn't even near any object. The sensor wasn't fitted correctly, and after visiting my dealer, they did sort it out, and now it's been working correctly. Small detail: I do find the driver seat loosing its strength. I tried to persuade the manufacturer that this is a defect, obviously caused by usage, but it shouldn't happen. But sadly they declined it. I might need to fix this myself, but I hoped that it would be covered. The top layer of the seat is a bit looser, it's like it isn't attached properly to the foam layer underneath. Besides these points, the car has been a bliss. It has taken me to the Netherlands several times, to Barry Island, to the Cotswolds, to wherever I want it to go. Epsom? London? Sure, no problem! The car has been there for me. And I think it's because of a few reasons. Good manufacturing process by Opel/Vauxhall/GM, good driver, and good maintenance. All these factors are visible in a good working vehicle. I don't drive the car extremely fast, nor dangerously. But when I need the power, it's there. I have to say that this being the newest car I have ever owned, it has also been the best. From all the cars I have driven over the years, it has been there for me. Yes, I've driven other vehicles over the years too, lately Lexus and Toyotas, and they have been good, but I don't want to exchange the vehicle just yet. No need to get rid of Charles/Charly. It's a decent car. It's a car. But a car that is a car, not a project for a technician. Low maintenance, but efficient experience for the driver. It does long distant drives very well. Oh, and I forgot to mention that it also has the ability to drive without me touching the pedals! How bliss is that? No lane warning system, but a cruise control that does it for me. You still need to touch the wheel, it's not a Tesla.. I give the car a 4.5 out of 5. Little things that nag me. But they are little. It does come equipped with everything you need. And things I personally don't need, but you (the reader) might. Protective child seat locks. Rear parking camera and sensors. It's got the lot. So now the vehicle details. If you are bothered: Vauxhall Corsa Cylinder Capacity: 1398 cc CO2 emissions: 120 g/km Fuel: Petrol Vehicle Colour: Grey Vehicle Type Approval : M1 Version: Diamond Edition There we go. If you are looking for a Corsa, make sure you investigate all the options out there: the specifications can be altered to your liking. Remember, Opel/Vauxhall do make the Corsa E now, so it might be that they do not fabricate the vehicle I have described. But I don't work for the manufacturer anymore, so I don't know. But you might see vehicles at your local dealership. Check them out, do a test drive, and see if it appeals to you. - Mark Neenan - Thatchers Vintage 505 Lockdown Mix (April 2020)
Techno,. Ever heard of it? Of course you have. If you are a connoisseur of the harder styles, you know it's a specific genre, and has been a stable one since the late 80s/early 90s. If you are a noob, you might call everything hard and fast Techno. You are clearly wrong. But that's OK, we are here to help, and support when necessary. The mix you are about to listen to, isn't anything else. It is pure Techno. Something Eminem rapped about, remember? Techno. Yes. It's by Mark Neenan, this mix. You might have seen a few mixes of him in the past, and now he's back with a new one. But I'm not sure what this mix is about? I'm guessing it was made for a radio station? Never heard of Thatchers Vintage 505? The name is linked to a person who has the same surname, who has Margaret as first name, and who took away school milk and closed down the mines. But she's got f**k all to do with it, right? If she does, how come I never knew that she liked Techno? Mark is also part of the Filth Infatuated label, so you will obviously hear music from that label. But it's kind of dark, this Techno mix. And a bit acid-y. It is a mix you want to hear on this beautiful Saturday morning. It isn't annoying or in your face kind of Techno though, so if you have just woken up, you will be woken up in a pleasant way. Let's check out the tracklist. And again, if you are a connoisseur, you might go nuts after seeing this tracklist. Alex Jann - Blue Moon Rising cLIENT 03 - Am I Reaching You A-Future - No Era (Alex Jann's Planet Transmit Remix) SQNCR69 - 310919 Cri Du Coeur - Diaphragm (Kaiser Remix) Euan Colston - C13H16CINO Mark Neenan - Not Another Covid Track A.P. & Sted Hellvis - Blank Input Lasawers & Lfsc - Atomik Miss Adk - Hexadecimal (Carara Remix Part 1) Grindvik & Pfirter - Neu Glenn Wilson & The Anxious - Direct 1 WISER - Badman Jay Tommy - Hidden Addiction Strap On Sally - Choker Maria Singer & Javi Lago - Blank Word Booty Slave & D.A.V.E. The Drummer - Eyes Meet Ceph20 - Rendlesham Bauernfeind - Kowloon City You are probably reading this, and thinking: '' mmmm, should I give this a go?''. Well, the answer to that is yes. Techno can be listened to 24/7, 364 days of the year. We will give the Christmas fanboys and girls (and other genders) that day to hear Mariah do her thing, and for Buble to come out of his cave. But all the other days are Techno, full of Techno. Mark Neenan's mix is tight. Very tight. I've been listening to his mixes over the years, and they have always been good. Not heard one shitty mix from him. So yeah, trust TCD when I say that Mark knows a thing or two about making good Techno mixes. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is a good mix. The records actually take me back to the early 2000s. They have got this vibe surrounding them, similar to the tracks made then. I'm loving it a lot. This would be the kind of music I would go nuts to on the dancefloor at events such as Innercity, Sensation Black, Mysteryland, etc. I do really like the early 2000s sound, it's so unique and catchy. And again, not in your face. That's what we like to hear. I'm a lover of Techno, but not an expert. So forgive me for not knowing who made the track around the 51 minute mark, but that's my favourite. If you are an expert, please leave a comment below. - Underground Rotterdam House Tape' 3 (1993)
Today I'm on a roll. Earlier on I was listening to some nice Trance music, which took me to another level, but now I'm listening to some lovely early Hardcore/House/Techno, from around 1993, taken from a mixtape. Yes, the actual tape. Tapes were a thing back in the 90s: for all you kids, you don't know the struggle we had with those damned things. The amount of pencils that we bought, just to rewind those bloody things... and the amount of tape we put on the corners of the pre-recorded tapes. It was a nuisance, but at that time the only thing we had. And we cherished it. I've not heard of these mixtapes before. Maybe because I'm not from Rotterdam (from Limburg, miles away from Rotjeknor). Or maybe because I was too young to actually get these tapes. There's a nice history behind these tapes, and if you are bothered, you can read it here (link will take you to Discogs). It will give you an idea on what the DJs had to do back then, to get the music to the masses. And the fact that bouncer weren't only there to protect you, but also to sell these tapes. God, those days. I wasn't old enough to go to the clubs, I was only 10 years old. But Hardcore music had already grabbed my attention (see my House Party 8 CD review). The tape is as oldskool as you can expect it to be. It's got everything you need: House, Techno, Gabber, Hardcore, and of course a bit of Breakbeat too! And that's exactly the reason why this mixtape stuck to me. You'll find it out soon. Thanks to our friend magpie303 for yet another wicked mixtape. His page is truly astonishing! Reanimator - This Is Not A Fairy- Tale The Ambush - Ambush 2 Seriously impressive mixtape! And the tracklist is a thing of beauty! I've got my headset on right now, and the volume is up to the max. I cannot listen to this mix with the volume low, thats like blasphemy. This was meant to be heard with the volume way up high, so that's what I'm doing right now. Whoever was behind this mixtape, is a genius. I'm really loving each and every record on here. Really impressed with the selection of anthems I love the diversity of this mixtape too! You can literally find everything in here. At certain points the mixing isn't beautiful, but that could be because it was mixed with 'basic' equipment, or the recording wasn't great, or the tape, it could be knackered. Wouldn't you be knackered if you were about 26/27 years old? Tapes weren't made to last forever. But you can still feel the music, and the good vibes happening back in 1993, in the club scene in the Benelux. I'm seriously in love with multiple records on here. Like 'Genetic Waste', 'Unknown' (track 19). 'Demilitarized Zone', but the best has to be this rather peculiar version of the Prodigy's 'Full Throttle'. Slightly different than the original version I'm aware of. Maybe the vinyl version from 1993 was different? A wicked mixtape. This has put my mind into overdrive, and I'm all hyped up right now. Sadly I need my rest, which probably won't happen for the next 7 hours...... - French Skies - WaveCasting 312 (2020)
I've been following this channel on Soundcloud for a while now, and every so often I do listen to the WaveCasting mix series, just to clear my mind, when necessary. So that's what I've done today: I saw one of their mixes online, and gave it a go. I had to, seeing as I had a rubbish day today. I needed something to cheer me up, something a bit calmer and relaxing, compared to the harder stuff I usually listen to. I've never heard of the artist French Skies before. I quickly went on his page, and found out that he's actually a Frenchman. Well, you never know if someone is from a place, unless you do your research (everyone can adopt a name which doesn't apply to them). But you can read the short biography on Soundcloud, so if you want to know more, head on over there, and go nuts. I'm more interested in the music, and obviously this mix is fully Trance focussed. But, seeing as I'm dipping in and out of the Trance scene, all these records are unknown to me. Should be a nice surprise. Here's the tracklist, if you are interested: Andrw Rayel - 550 Senta (Eximinds Bootleg) Acues - A Perfect Day (Original Mix) Maratone & Roxanne Emery - Learn To Fly (Mhammed El Alami Extended Remix) Amine Maxwell & INDI - Quivira (Original Mix) Sebastian Pawlica - The Great Pyramids (Original Mix) Sergey Salekhov - Alena (Original Mix) Tycoos & Denis Sender - Collabro (Aimoon Remix) David Forbes & Lostly - In My Mind (Extended Mix) Will Atkinson - Beans (Extended Mix) Who Knows? & Mr. Nobody - Balance (Original Mix) Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs Vini Vici - Get In Trouble (So What) (Extended Mix) Yner - Smart Dust (Original Mix) Massimo Santucci - Earth & Space (Analogue Dream Remix) I know only a handful of the artists, but that's not a bad thing. It's always a good thing to learn new things. And today is such a day for me. I've opened up, and a new world emerged. So let's see if French Skies' latest WaveCasting mix is something for me, and maybe you. Well, I have to say that he won me over with the first record in this mix. What a slammer! I've not heard this one before (like all 13 others in this mix), but what a fantastic record! Seeing as we are all locked inside of our homes and we cannot go out and party throughout the night, I can simply close my eyes, and let this record do the trick for me. Fantastic remix, that's for sure. And that's my favourite record of this mix. Of course the others are great too (besides 'Get In Trouble', just can't stand Pink! and all these remixes of her tunes). It does keep you going. And the good thing about this mix, is the fact that you can download this for free. And he's got 311 other episodes of his WaveCasting, worth checking out. A good mix series. If you love Trance, you will certainly like WaveCasting. - Beuk In Je Kanus 74.0 - Hardstyle Summer Edition (2020)
Has 2020 finally ended yet? It's been a terrible year, and for many it lingers in our minds that this was the year without any proper festivals. And when I say proper festivals, I'm obviously talking about events where 25.000+ people are crammed into this wide open field, dancing the day/night away to awesome dance music. Lasers everywhere, epic firework show at the end, speakers as far as the eye can see, and expensive drinks and merchandising. Yep, thats a proper festival for me. But this year it's not going to happen. We might see the odd festival here and there, but with a distance of 2 meters between each ravers, that's going to be one big ass field for everyone to fit in. So, to start this review with a positive note, 2020 can fuck off. Beuk In Je Kanus. A solid place on Soundcloud if you want to hear Hardstyle/Rawstyle music. They provide us with music on a regular basis, and with their 74th edition of their Beuk In Je Kanus mix series, they have upped the ante. They made a summer edition. Damn, another reminder of a missed summer. But anyway, the summer, it's always a bit more happier, a bit more euphoric. I don't know why, but it does. So this mix is packed to the max with Euphoric Hardstyle anthems. And even though I'm a miserable sod, and I miss the festivals, if I close my eyes and hear this mix playing in the background, I can actually see myself on that field. Nikes covered in mud, and having the time of my life. Imagination can take me everywhere and anywhere I like. Euphoric Hardstyle tracklist anyone? Phuture Noize feat Josh & Wesz - Liberal Endymion & Crystal Mad - How It's Done Noisecontrollers - Nobody So High (Sound Rush Mashup) Wildstylez - R.U.S.H. Max Enforcers & AmsterdamSoundSystem feat Mark Vayne - She Got Me Like Brooklyn Bounce - Club Bizarre (Headhunterz & Noisecontrollers Remix) Max Enforcer - Lost In Paradise The Vision - Melody Madness Exilium - Heart Of Glass The Pitcher feat Sam LeMay - Together As One Headhunterz - Megasound (Devin Wild Remix) Sound Rush feat Eurielle - Back To The Roots Headhunterz feat Malukah - Dragonborn Part 2 Rebourne - Free Digital Punk & Noisecontrollers - Blue Horizon Clockartz & Bram Boender - The Art Of Being One NSCLT feat LXCPR - Reborn (Rebirth 2017 Anthem) Hard Driver & Code Black - GTFO Headhunterz - Headshot Headhunterz - Subsonic (Hard Bass Edit) Josh & Wesz - Overdrive O I had to put on my headphones, just to capture the music as much as I could, as loud as I can handle it. Or, to put it in normal terms, as loud as the headphones could handle. I like my music hard and loud, and bass driven, so thankfully my headphone can handle it. And now I've got it set up to the max, blowing my ears into smithereens. Blow them the fuck up. I'm truly fascinated about how euphoric Hardstyle can sound. It touches you in such a good way, you feel happier in a second once you hear those familiar chords. You are in another world, happier, and free. And guess where I am right now? Nope, not in my second living room, sitting mostly in the darkness. I am anywhere BUT here. I am among thousands of ravers, dancing, raising my hands in the air, and stomping the fuck out of everything around me with my feet. I am alive, and I know it. Beuk In Je Kanus have selected a good selection of Euphoric Hardstyle anthems. Obviously when you talk about euphoric, you talk Headhunterz and friends. They have capture the sound, and made it so extremely catchy. And dancefloor friendly. But let's not just assume that Headhunterz rules everything: in this mix you find a lot of Euphoric anthems by the old and new generation. Young as Sound Rush, old as Noisecontrollers/Endymion etc. Still making sure the music is aligned with the style, and making it as cheerful as possible. But you are probably wondering which record is my favourite? It was a difficult choice, but I had two favourite anthems: 'Back To The Roots' by Sound Rush and Eurielle, but the number one, the ultimate party record of this mix, has got to be ..... (drum roll please)... Rebourne's 'Free'. My sweet Lord, what an anthem! This is exactly what I want to hear, and this record immediately took me to a field. Yes, that field I was talking about earlier. Shit a brick, what a smashing record. This is euphoria, and you all know it. Beuk In Je Kanus has delivered yet another wicked mix, and the responses so far have been great. This is a channel worth checking out, if you love your music to be rough and raw. - DJ Fly - Free Mix Part 4 (2015)
I am probably the whitest person on Earth, and I'm not lying. But as white as I might be, I do love a bit of Hip Hop / Rap. Especially the early stuff. Not sure about the present day Hip Hop, have lost interest many years ago when it became too commercial. But when I was a young lad, I grew up listening to everything, and even Hip Hop was played when I was a teenager. My dad even took back from the States several Hip Hop CDs, ones you would never see in the Netherlands at all! I used to be a kid who did not listen to lyrics, but feeling the vibes was more my thing. I seriously keep finding out hidden innuendos in records, that everyone else knows about, except me. But what I am saying is, that the lyrics never mattered to me. As long as the groove is good and I can bop my head to it, I love it. Now in 2020 the world is changing, and even I have grown much more mature, and hear lyrics more clearly. Well, I still find it difficult to create a story with the lyrics: some of these MCs go damn fast. How do you expect me to listen and understand each sentence? Anyway, this mix. It's made by DJ Fly. And it does contain Hip Hop / Rap anthems. I had to Google DJ Fly, but it turns out he's a multiple award winning DJ, even having the DMC World Championship title twice. So he knows a thing or two about scratching. And it turns out he loves Hip Hop, so this mix should be good! Check the tracklist. This is proper music. DJ Fly - Intro Free Mix Part 4 Kool G Rap & DJ Polo - Ill Street Blues Mystikal - Bouncin Back Busta Rhymes - Make Noise DJ Fly - KRS One Session Nice & Smooth - Funky For You Gang Starr feat Nice & Smooth - Dwyck Nice & Smooth - Hip Hop Junkies Beastie Boys - Sure Shot Eric B & Rakim - Don't Sweat The Technique The Fugees - Nappy Heads Eric B & Rakim - Juice Daz Dillinger - Round & Round We Go El Doe - Get That Paper Redman - Put It Down Puff Daddy - Blast Off Rah Digga - Break Fool Digital Underground - Humpty Dance Wreckx N Effect - Rump Shaker James Brown - Blues And Pants Nas - Get Down Method Man feat Mary J. A lot of extremely big names in his mix. Even a few I've forgotten about. And the added bonus you do get is that every so often, DJ Fly starts to scratch, and it just works beautifully. Well, he didn't win the World title for no reason, eh? As good as the records and the artists might be, I do have this feeling for Eric B & Rakim's voices and the way they rhyme. Their two records in Fly's mix are my favourite: who doesn't love 'Don't Sweat The Technique'? Don't get me wrong, every other artist has had a huge impact in the scene, and I do like 99% of them (don't like Mystikal, his voice sounds too raw). When it comes to the beats, 'Round & Round We Go' by Daz Dillinger wins it, followed by everything by Wu Tang Clan. But Eric B & Rakim are just Kings. This mix has made me go nuts for the early Hip Hop sound. Not the stupid mumble rap or the top 40 Hip Hop. I am certainly going to check out DJ Fly's other mixes on Soundcloud, and so should you. This isn't a standard TCD mix, but as you know: I love every kind of music. And yes, this white boy even likes Hip Hop. - DJ Deluxe Studio Mix May 2020
It's Saturday morning, and I've just woken up. And I am in dire need of something relaxing, yet something to wake me up. I remember that someone posted a link in the Crazy Dutchmans Blog Facebook page, which I did not check out yet. Not heard of DJ Deluxe before, so I was ready to give this a go. What I am currently listening to, is a mix filled with Breakbeat Hardcore tunes I've never heard before. I don't know much about the person behind the name Deluxe. But I'm guessing he's into Breakbeat Hardcore. And he's got some releases coming up on labels such as Endor Recordings, Future Breakz, KFA Records and more. So a promising act you might need to look out for? He already had some positive feedback. So I should check this out, right? And I am. Don't hear many Breakbeat Hardcore mixes, so when I do, it's always pleasant to hear the music. But is DJ Deluxe someone you should check out? Is he worth your time? Let me show you the tracklist first. DJ Dossa - Elevated Simon Holmes - Future Echoes Deluxe & Jow - Feel Alive (ManBearPig Remix) Little Big - Uno (DJ Deluxe Remix) Montaigne - Don't Break Me (DJ Dossa Remix) DJ Deluxe - Now That's What I Call Music (Ill Advised Remix) ManBearPig - Old's Kool ManBearPig - Triple Love DJ Deluxe - Make Some Fuckin' Noise DJ Deluxe - Closer DJ Deluxe - So Soothing DJ Deluxe - Illuminate (Forbidden Mix) DJ Deluxe - Man From Maggotty (PFB vs MBP Soundclash Mix) DJ Deluxe & Dave Skywalker - Pandemic DJ Deluxe - Bang Your Head DJ Deluxe - Wait A Minute You know what this reminds me of? When I discovered a new Breakbeat Hardcore producer called Inspector Sands a few years ago, and I was blown away by his productions. I've got the same vibes here. Not heard of DJ Deluxe before, but his music really seems to appeal to me. I do get oldskool vibes going through my body when I listen to this mix. It's a nice and cool mix. And the records themselves are really wicked. Recognisable piano bits, and did I hear even a bit of Angerfist in here? Whatever you Breakbeat Hardcore fanatic are looking for, you will find it in this mix. The track that I liked the most is 'Feel Alive' remixed by ManBearPig. I just love the vocals. Don't know the original though; I am guessing it's from a top 40 song? Am I too old to recognise the original song these vocals are from? Anyway, a pleasant way to wake up on this dreary Saturday morning. Make sure you check out this mix, and give this man a like on Soundcloud! You won't be dissapointed. - Gizmo & The Darkraver @ Rezerection - The Nightmare (1995)
If I have to give the Scottish credit, it's for them loving the Dutch Gabber sound. Since the early years of Gabber they have been organising parties all over Scotland, and getting the Dutch artists to play at their events. One of the most legendary events (which I've not been to sadly) is Rezerection. And correct me if I'm wrong, but that event is still going strong, right? Or is it just my imagination? Back in 1995 they had a Rotterdam edition. And the line up seriously gives me goosebumps! Proper oldskool, and a line up not seen in a long time. And the tickets were OK when it comes to the actual price: £22.50 for a ticket to see the following artists: Paul Elstak, Tango & Cash, Darrien Kelly, The Darkraver, Gizmo, DJ Rob, Petrov, Mark Maclauchlan, Neophyte, Terror Traxx, Too Fast For Mellow, Two Terrorists, E-Wax, Bodylotion, Brothers In Law, Rotterdam Records, Euromasters, King Dale, Bald Terror, Hard Attack, Evil Maniax, and more. That's one seriously insane line-up. Fucking insane. You Scots, you know how to create an awesome line-up. I am impressed. Don't know if the actual event was awesome, but I'm guessing that with such a line-up, this event must have been awesome. Magpie303, the awesome Soundcloud Hardcore collection creator, has uploaded Gizmo & The Darkraver's set on Soundcloud. And it's exactly what I was expecting. Gabber, Hardcore, and a tad of Happy Hardcore. And judging the length of the set, it must have been taken from the cassette. The quality is low, but that's to be expected from a tape around 25 years old. The tracklist is awesome. If someone could fill us in with the missing track, that would be appreciated! The Wasteland - Is It Acceptable DJ Gizmo & Delerium - Do You Wanna Dance Isaac - Pump Up The Party Bertocucci Feranzano - XTC Love (Original Mix) Frantic Explosion - Power To The People Vibes & Wishdokta - No More Tears ID - ID Stingray & Sonicdriver - As Cold As Ice (El Bruto Mix) Active Force - Head Like A Pac Man Shrillness - Atomic Sexmachine DJ Tails & Noizer - Drum And Basz DJ Gizmo & The Darkraver - We Got The Juice (Original Mix) Oldskool vibes galore! You would expect to hear this kind of music when you think of the year 1995. The Scottish crowd must have been absolutely absorbing this awesome Rotterdam sound. I've never been to an event where they played Rotterdam sounding Hardcore, but it's always been my favourite kind of Hardcore. And the tracklist does look awesome. A bit of everything. Hardcore, Gabber and even Happy Hardcore. Sadly, the set itself, is a complete nightmare. Now I fully understand the fact that they had to use basic equipment, two turntables and a mixer, but this set is filled to the max with errors. Don't know if it's because of the recording quality, or maybe the tape quality, but to me it sounds more like a DJ error. Maybe the Darkraver had a few too many Bacardi and Cokes down his neck? I wish the set was a bit better. I've heard better sets from 1995. This really isn't one of the best. Sadly I would consider it to be one of the worst ones of 1995. At certain times it does sound good, and the transition goes well, but most of the time it just sounds like a cluster fuck. A big one. Thanks Magpie303 for this set. The mixing isn't great, but the tracks are. Especially 'Head Like A Pac Man'. Haven't heard that one in years! - Nexus Presents: Festival Feeling 2020
2020 will be known as the year when no festivals took place. Slowly we are getting out of the misery that's COVID-19, but we have missed out on a lot of events, and even the big ones that should have taken place during the Summer, have cancelled due to the safety of the visitors, and the risk such an event might have. So we might see a few events take place, but not as many as last year. The world has woken up to online events, which are obviously more boring. Who sits still during a livestream? We want to stomp our feet onto the ground, and raise our fists in the air. We need to be at a festival to have that special feeling. 2020, you can fuck off. 2020 is a horrible year. The only escape most of us have, is to find music online. And today I've found a mix by DJ NexuS. Not aware who's behind the name, but the mix is focussed on the Euphoric Hardstyle sound. Some new and some old records in here. This to celebrate what we are sadly missing. But you do get the festival feeling when you press play. All records selected are 'happy' tunes. They make you want to stomp your feet even harder onto the ground. A wide variety of artists. An hour of Euphoric Hardstyle, who doesn't want to hear that? Well, if you fancy a bit, here's the tracklist: Edward Maya & Vika Jiguling - Stereo Love (Wildstylez Remix) Audiotricks & Demi Kanon - Fallen Horizon Wasted Penguinz & Da Tweekaz - Island Refuge (Qontinent 2013 Anthem) Code Black - You've Got The Love Coone & Wildstylez - Here I Come Adrenalize feat ADN - Get Up Max Enforcer & Frontliner - Wknd Noisecontrollers - So High D-Block & S-Te-Fan & Rebourne - Louder (Louder Edit) Atmozfears - Gold Skies (Decibel 2015 Anthem) Adrenalize - All The Memories Sound Rush - Sticks & Stones Frontliner - TBA 2 Atmozfears & Jesse Jax - Keep Your Eyes Open Max Enforcer - Lost In Paradise D-Block & S-Te-Fan & DJ Isaac - World Renowned Da Tweekaz - Komon KELTEK - Dark Sun Phuture Noize - Circles And Squares B-Front & Alpha2 feat Snowflake - Lost B-Front & Adrenalize - Elektronic Symphony Sub Zero Project & KELTEK - Break The Game B-Front - Smells Like Teen Spirit Noisecontrollers & Atmozfears & B-Front - Das Boot Act Of Rage & Killshot - Day For Night Rebelion feat Micha Martin - The Edge A tracklist and a half. So many great producers in here. DJ NexuS has selected the big guns for his Summer mix. Nice and heavenly Hardstyle. Who doesn't want to hear that? It is true, this mix is packed with festival anthems. These tunes won't go amiss during an event. You need to hear them, standing next to thousand speakers, in a field, when darkness hits, and the lasers + fireworks demolish your eyes. That's when you feel alive and the happiest. In a field of mud? Who cares, as long as we have got the music and sick ass lasers. The peep noise you have days after the event/festival took place is really a good feeling; it means you partied hard. But don't overdo it, permanent ear damage isn't funny. Being deaf is shite. The Euphoric anthems are coming at you, through your speakers. A good selection by NexuS. Some aren't really particularly good, like 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and 'Komon', but I would appreciate them once I'm at the festival, drunk as a skunk. But here, sitting in my living room, listening to these records, it doesn't do a single thing for me. The other 23/24 anthems are really what I wanted to hear. I love the cheerfulness in each record. It just sounds like the Summer is about to happen, and the festival season has started. I don't know how else to describe it. But not in 2020. Festival Indoors. Indoors as in your own home. Pff. Too many great anthems to choose from. But the one that has been my favourite for quite a while now, is 'Lost In Paradise' by Max Enforcer. If you don't know it, are you event a party animal? The mix is good, a few 'meh' records, and some small errors in there. But you can still feel the festive spirit surrounding it. Worth checking it out! - Paranoizer - F**k The Corona Lockdown Mix (2020)
We all have to say it out loud. F**k the Corona virus! F**k COVID-19. We hate it with a passion. And we hate the fact that there are too many victims of this virus. As a world we should remain united, and remain safe. We can beat this horrible and disgusting virus. How? Well, at the moment there's no official cure, and there has been a lot of speculation in the media that certain pills might do the trick (which is obviously a hoax), but maybe, and I say this lightly, Terror might do the trick? The Terror I am talking about, is obviously not the violent type. Well, it is violent in it's own way, but it's music. And the Terror today is presented to us by Paranoizer. His mix focusses on the harder style of Hardcore, and the title is suitable for 2020. F**k the Corona virus. He's absolutely right. We hate it with a passion, and maybe by raving extremely hard and fast, we might kill it? Kill it dead. I don't mind the faster music, as long as it makes sense. And this mix does make sense. The wife disagrees, but what does she know about Terror, eh? She isn't a Terrorhead like I am. So, lockdown can be a bitch, but can be a good one. We can stay safe, and rave extremely fast. So why not have a blast? Get your lasers out of the shed, blow off the dust of your stroboscopes, plug in the big speakers, and create your own Terror event. Have fun. Love it. Tripped feat Mikey Motion - I'm A Nice Guy Paranoizer - Mad Commotion (Striker Remix) Paranoizer - Back The Fuck Up SRB - Pedal Execrate - Sacrifice Paranoizer - STFU Paranoizer - Kick Some Ass Suicide Rage & Paranoizer - Fake Ass Bitches Nekrosystem - The Fucking Devil Paranoizer - Origami Striker - Digging In The Crates The Vizitor & Paranoizer - frontantipiepkicks SRB - I Take Your Brain The Vizitor - Simply Terror (Paranoizer Remix) Hard Infantry - Fuck His Wife Mithridate & Paranoizer - Headz Will Roll Red Ogre - Acceleration Force Dissoactive & Paranoizer - Klerelijers Execrate - Overflow From Hell Fiend & Virtue - Self-Destruct Paranoizer - Kill Him Noisekick - FHRITP (Nekrosystem Remix) If you don't like fast music, you will certainly not like this. You will hate it with a vengeance. But that's OK. You might have clicked on this mix by accident, seeing as the tag on Soundcloud is 'Disco'. Good choice mr Paranoizer. Good choice. It's obviously fast, and I really wanted to hear something this fast on this Sunday morning. Why not? A true Terrorhead can listen to it 24/7, 365 days a year. Even at Christmas we want to hear it. It might not be good music to listen to when you are trying to dose off to sleep, because your mind will remain in hyperdrive, but some actually can sleep to this. I've seen people at raves sound asleep next to the speakers. But that could have easily been because of other influences. Anyway, is Paranoizer's mix any good? Yes. I really enjoyed the mayhem it has created in our household. I am the only one that likes the harder sound, so I drove everyone mad here. The pace remains fast from the first to the last record, and the mix also contains a few of Paranoizer's own productions. A good introduction, if you aren't aware of who he is, and what he's capable of. The beats are fast, and I'm really hyped. My body is currently pumping blood around it at a staggering 250+ BPM. And I'm loving it. I wouldn't be able to dance to it anymore: I've got the COVID-19 body. Fat, overweight, and saggy belly. So if I dance to this, I would certainly create an earthquake, here in London. Best record? The Vizitor's 'Simply Terror', remixed by Paranoizer. Wicked track. Don't let your Sunday be ruined by COVID-19. Make sure you play this out loud. Wake up the whole damn neighbourhood. And if the police arrive at your door, just blame the virus. We should. - Nizzle & Nelza - Ravin Roots Volume 2 (2020)
It's been a while since I last reviewed a UK Hardcore mix. A lot of other genres have passed the revue, but UK Hardcore has been a bit quietly lately. That could be my fault, or the Soundcloud parameters. I simply do not see a lot of them passing by. Or when they do, they don't have a tracklist, which is sad. But I think that I've a smashing mix for everyone to hear today, on this glorious Saturday afternoon. Another week in lockdown, but it's all coming to an end (we hope). Nizzle and Nelza's Ravin Roots mix series, have you heard about it? You haven't? That's good. Let me explain a bit more about it (as much as I know about it). It's a mix series, taking the ravers back in time, to the glorious years of UK Hardcore. The early years. Well, not really the early early years, but more the music released around the Millennium and after. The golden era of UK Hardcore. They decided to make mixes focussed on this sound, and the result is a blinding hour long mix. I did store the first volume, but haven't had the chance to listen to it yet. But the first two instalments are both about an hour long, and they contain the big hits you want to hear. The classics, as some would like to call them. I would like to call them the 'all time greatest' anthems. The records that we do like, and love. I keep on teasing you all, so it's time now for the tracklist. Here's the tracklist: 4 Rising Stars - Feelin' Me (Breeze & Styles Remix) Spenno & Jess - Find Your Way (Breeze & Styles Remix) Darren Styles - Feel Love Squad-E & The Doctor - Holding On Right Now Hixxy - Don't Feel Love Seduction & Darren Styles - Sunlight Hixxy, Dougal & Gammer - Phaze 2 Phaze Breeze & Styles - Electric Flyin & Sparky feat Charm - True Love Revolution (Re-Con Remix) D-Code - Out Of My Hands (Squad-E Remix) Joey Riot vs Technotrance - Together Again (Sy & Unknown Remix) Breeze & Re-Con - Love U 4 A Lifetime Sy & Unknown feat Lou Lou - Caught Up In Your Love Scott Brown - Prince Of Darkness Mickey Skeedale feat Jenna - Through The Darkness (Dougal & Gammer Remix) Breeze & Chris Unknown - One Desire This is what I want to hear when I think of UK Hardcore. These are indeed classics. All time awesomeness. I am really happy that there's yet another mix series alive, to keep the Millennium sound alive. I thought at first it was going to be a DJ + MC mix, seeing as I am not aware of Nelza is, but it's not. No MCs were involved in this mix. Two DJs on one mix. That's all you get, but what a tremendous mix you do get! Have you seen the tracklist, have you actually looked at it, or just glanced at it? You need to absorb the artists + titles. It's wicked. The happy vibes are coming through the roof. You can hear the happiness coming towards you. It's going to make you feel so happy. The tracks selected by Nizzle and Nelza are really awesome. Especially the Sy & Unknown stuff. Such a shame though, those two together made excellent tunes. I will probably check the first instalment as well, and so should you. I've really enjoyed this mix. Taking me back in time. I feel like a late teenager again! Thanks Nizzle and Nelza. - The Knutsens 'In-N-Out The Ivy' Mix Vol 1 (2020)
A couple of weeks ago I discovered a new group on Soundcloud, called the Knutsens. If I'm honest, I don't know who's behind this project, or what their name means, but their latest mix is yet another one I would like to share with you all. Unless you hate Disco and Funk music. In that case, why you even bothering reading this? Who doesn't like Disco and Funk? Seriously, who hates it enough for them to go 'nah, I'll pass'? That's just surreal. I don't even know the restaurant/bar The Ivy. Am I really alive? Am I a person of this world? Clearly not, there are so many locations for me to discover. But what I can gather from the image, it's a funky looking bar, and having Disco/Funk music played there, well, it looks suitable. And with this mix, the Knutsens are thanking the Ivy for them playing there. It's obviously now a bit different due to COVID19, but I'm guessing that once everything goes back to normality, they will have the bar rammed. Their mix is a short one. Would really hear a longer mix. Time just goes by too damn quickly. Especially when you are enjoying the music. And I've even played this last weekend during our first BBQ of 2020. And no one complained, so that's a bonus. Did it make the food taste better? Nope. Music doesn't have that much power! Anyway, the tracklist, if you are interested. Horse Meat Disco feat Kathy Sledge - Falling Deep In Love Again (Joey Negro 12" Disco Blend) Angelo Ferreri - Izinque (Alessio Cala' Remix) COEO - 1981 Opolopo - Mr Zogs Sex Wax Soul Reductions - Got To Be Loved (Extended Mix) Change - Love 4 Love (Joey Negro Extended Remix) COEO - Japanese Woman Sister Sledge - You Fooled Around (Joey Negro Fooled Around With Mix) Odyssey - Inside Out (The Knutsens In-N-Out Mix) Without a shadow of a doubt, this has got some of the weirdest names ever. I cannot express my facial expression when I saw 'Horse Meat Disco' and 'Mr Zogs Sex Wax' in this tracklist. Is it weird? Yes. But is it good music? YES! I can only give the Knutsens credit for making a mix so good. Normally I listen to the harder styles, but this time I'm really hooked on their mixes. They've uploaded two mixes so far, but I really liked both of them. Really funky, really catchy music. Absolutely nothing wrong with their style. I should invest more time in styles a bit softer, a bit more fragile, but the harder styles just grab me, and don't let me go. But the Knutsens mix is really good, I have been playing this over and over. It's that addictive. It's like a drug: I just need more and more. Wish I lived a bit closer to Edinburgh or Glasgow. I would have gone to the Ivy, to hear these wicked tunes being played. Nice and relaxing dance tunes. This kind of music can fit anywhere, any place, any time. So damn good. And the best record of them all? It's the one with the weird title: 'Mr Zogs Sex Wax'. - DJ A.K. - Happy Eurocore Classics 24.04.20
Happy Hardcore. Eurocore. I freaking love it! I don't need to express my happiness, when I talk about Happy Hardcore. Sometimes it even surpasses my happiness for Hardcore/Gabber. Yep, that's right, I said it. And I don't care. Happy Hardcore was such an influential style for me during the 90s. I think at one stage I even bought more Happy albums compared to others. I was so in love with the sound, even though it was kind of ridiculed by many. I couldn't care less. To find a cheese fest online, is what I always wanted to see. DJ A.K.'s latest mix contains only the cheesiest of cheese. Full of rave anthems from Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, and more. Yes, the Dutch have contributed a lot to this style, so you will find a lot of well known anthems in here. I was in love with the compilation released by Arcade, which was called 'Happy Hardcore' funnily enough, and I bought some other compilations here and there too, but I wouldn't say I'm an aficionado of the style. Even A.K. has surprised me with a few unknown classics in here. Of course he has played the biggest tracks from the 90s, but also a few I've not heard before. A nice Monday morning treat! Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo - Wonderful Days (Etienne Overdijk & Sven Maes Remix) Sonicdriver - In Your Arms Tonight Maui - Feel Me Tonight T.T.O.T. - Get Up (Airplay Edit) Interactive - Forever Young DJ Thoka - You Make Me Feel So Good Highlander - Everytime 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It (Happy Mix) Moratto - Radar Systems (Universe Party Mix) Highlander - Last Forever The Omen - Let The Music Take Control (Radio Mix) Marusha - It Takes Me Away 2 Without Heads - U And Me (Hardcore Forever) (Miss Groovy Remix) Trancehistory - Doo Dey Doo Dey Love Child - All Out Of Love (DJ Weirdo & DJ Sim Remix) Spy vs Spy - Dance With Me M-Jay & Dan Vee - The Sun Always Shines 4 Tune Fairytales - Take Me 2 Wonderland Kim Ono - Big In Japan 4 Tune Fairytales - My Little Fantasy Zoee - Tekkno Wonderland Dune - I Can't Stop Raving Habegale - I Want Your Mind (Alt 2 Mix) Nakatomi - Children Of The Night A-Tension - Angels Highlander - Hold Me Now (Bass-D & King Matthew Remix) OMFG. This mix is perfect. My childhood has returned. I feel like I'm 14 years old again. Just had a chat with the missus about Happy Hardcore and how much it meant to me. See, this is what this mix does to me. So happy right now. It kind of ruined Hardcore in 1999, which was a bummer, but it's still part of my youth. I will never disown it. How cheesy it might be. As I said before, A.K. still surprised me with a few unknown anthems. And sadly those anthems don't do anything for me. 'Big In Japan', 'I Want Your Mind', 'Radar Systems'. Those are sadly not my cup of tea, even cheesier than expected. But all the others are just what I need to hear. So many memories. And so many great anthems. I wish it was still alive and kicking. But the memory lives on. It was difficult to pick one favourite, but I chose Marusha's 'It Takes Me Away'. That record was so awesome back in 1994. It was even part of a CD single which was released with a school agenda, so you can imagine I played it over and over until nothing was left. A good mix. Really enjoyed A.K.'s selection. More of this cheese fest. But not too damn cheesy lol. DJ: A.K. - Let's MizzBehave - Yoga Session Vol.1 (2020)
If there's one thing I cannot imagine doing right now, it is yoga. I do not have the patience to sit and do those weird poses. Or even have my body parts move in an unusual way. I would break into a billion pieces. Nah, yoga ain't my cup of tea, but Mizz Behave thinks it's a good idea to get more people into yoga. And as far I know yoga, the music played during a session is kind of boring. All 'inspiring' music, to keep your body yin to yang. Spiritual and relaxing music is what keeps people motivated. For me, that's a complete buzzkill. Can't do that. She decided to give us a 31 minute long mix, to make sure your session is different. I still don't know who's behind the mask, but she's very flexible. No, that's not a sexual comment, but you can clearly see her in the picture above. I've not seen the soles of my feet in years: I am not that flexible. Anyway, she is different. She like things to be a bit harder, and rougher. So her mix is filled with shit tons of hard and extreme records. And if anyone knows the ins and outs, she's linked to GPF, isn't she? She's got something to do with the boys. I am just not sure why, or who she is. She's a mystery, like Angerfist, or GPF. No one knows who's behind the mask. But she's being doing great stuff in the Puzzycore scene, and as expected, the mix is filled with a lot of awesome and weird tracks. Tracklist should be a feast for your eyes. And please, stop looking at the image of her, you filthy freak! Disgusting. Thyron & Fraw - Crash Neroz - Soulshock Riot Shift - Dark Matter (Mizz Cut) Ran-D & Endymion feat LePrince - FUCK From Reality (Mizz Behave Rape) Ncrypta - NXT LVL (Sickmode Remix) Caine - Hype Beast JeBroer - Gaan Met Die Banaan (GPF & Mizz Behave's Laser Piep Kick Edit of Riot Shift's Vegang Edit) Mizz Behave & The Freaky Bastards - LOCA GPF & Mind Compressor - Spaghetti Love (Mizz Behave Remix) GPF x Caine x Mizz Behave - Cum Filled Fuckery (GREAZED UP ANTHEM) GPF x Malice - All I Want Is Piep Kickz X Mizz Behave - Suck My Puzzy Exorcism - Piepshow Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz x Mizz Behave - I Fucked A Girl Da Tweekaz - Moana (Caine & GPF's 200BPM Donk F**k Duck Piep Kick Remix) Greazy Puzzy Fuckerz - Cummin On Ur Face Brennan Heart & Jonathan Mendelsohn - Imaginary (Mizz Behave Fucktempo April Fool X) This is one messed up tracklist. Sweet Lord, if you were expecting a smooth yoga session, you are going to be slightly disappointed. And I'm guessing she's got a few people on Soundcloud who saw that it was a yoga session mix, to click on it, and they were in for a shock. That's the way to do it. Shock the world, why f**king not? I am a fan of GPF and their weird approach to Hardstyle/Uptempo, and Mizz Behave's mix is packed with music from the legends. Not only their tracks are in here, but also a few of her own productions and collaborations. Is she GPF? Is that what it is? We were all to believe it was Caine, but he's not even part of it. He's just the janitor. Mizz Behave is GPF? This is probably an unpopular statement, but I don't care. Really enjoyed this hard and rough set. It has certainly woken me up on this Monday morning. Thankfully it's a bank holiday, so there's no need to stay focussed and do work stuff. I can do whatever I like, so this mix will be on repeat throughout the whole day. There might be some GPF fanboys and girls out there who are going to hate me, but my favourite record of this mix is made by Thyron and Fraw, and it's called 'Crash'. It's hard, yes, but not as hard as GPF or Mizz Behave. Maybe I'm getting older and can't handle the power anymore. But I really liked the extreme darkness to this record. And the way it throws you around, you don't know what to expect next. Another wicked mix by Mizz Behave. I won't certainly do any yoga, but if you are planning on doing so, why not let her mix be your guide? Stay safe, and make sure you workout. Be like Mizz Behave! - Judge Jules Classics Special @ Luminosity Beach Festival 28-06-2015
If I'm honest to you guys and girls, I have to say that Luminosity is the one event I would really want to go to. This Trance focussed dance event has got everything you need, and as far as I can remember, they always had the biggest and baddest line-up in the whole wide world. Back in 2015 it wasn't any different: Marco V, Paul van Dyk, Solarstone, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Rank 1, Marcel Woods, Art Of Trance, Signum, and the list goes on. And of course Judge Jules. What a killer line-up: many other events should be jealous of this awesome line-up. So what did Judge Jules do? He went all out, and did a classic Trance set. And it contains tracks I've not heard in a long time! Proper classic anthems. Be prepared to be amazed. I am easily amazed nowadays, but when I talk about music, you should always follow my lead, and if I comment that you should be amazed, well, just be. The tracks he has selected, I don't hear them that often. It has made me blow dust of my old Trance CDs, and I know exactly what I'll be listening to during this windy yet sunny Sunday. Thanks Judge Jules for this mix. Really appreciated. Starparty - I'm In Love (Ferry Corsten & Robert Smit Remix) Lost Witness - Happiness Happening (Lange Remix) Above & Beyond - Alone Tonight (Above & Beyond's Club Mix) Kristine Blond - Love Shy (Electrique Boutique Remix) Fridge - Angel (Club Mix) Umex - Gatex (Tiesto Remix) Da Hool - Meet Her At The Love Parade (Nalin & Kane Remix) Southside Spinners - Luvstruck Marc Et Claude - I Need Your Lovin' (Like The Sunshine) (Dark Moon Complete Vocal Mix) Ratty - Sunrise (Here I Am) (Club Mix) Aurora - Hear You Calling (Dark Moon Remix) Tillmann Uhrmacher - On The Run (Ocean To Shore Club Extended) Art Of Trance - Madagascar (Richard Durand Remix) Sander van Doorn - Riff Matt Darey presents Mash Up - Liberation (Temptation - Fly Like An Angel) (Ferry Corsten Remix) Judge Jules - Verano Loco Wow. Hell yeah. I told you he used tracks that you sadly don't hear that often. What a ridiculous mix. But I mean it in a good way. Gosh, I wish I was there, hearing these anthems: I would have lost my freaking mind. Obviously the biggest Trance anthems are in here. 'Luvstruck', 'Gatex', 'On The Run', 'Love Shy', 'I'm In Love', and the list goes on. But it also contained a version of a record I've never heard before: 'Madagascar' remixed by Richard Durand. Fuck me, that's a filthy version of an already all time classic. I might just take that one, and name that my favourite. Alongside Ratty's 'Sunrise' of course, can't talk about this set and not name this record too. I really enjoyed this set. There's nothing wrong with it. Well, maybe the recording quality itself. It's not the best and highest quality mix on Soundcloud, but you can still hear the anthems, and that's all that matters. Fuck everything else, 30 years ago we had cassette quality. Imagine living in 2020 and still having that! Wicked set. Bring back the classics! NOW! - Fraudulent websites, and how to deal with them...
We live in unprecedented times. That's a phrase you hear and read about everywhere nowadays. COVID-19 has made us all look at the way we live, and we had to adapt to this rather unusual virus that has swept the world. You might think it's a hoax, or you might even think that the information provided by your government is wrong, but whatever you think of it, it's a dangerous and deadly virus. And you don't want to catch it. But it also has another side effect that sadly emerges during times of need: fraudulent websites. How do you deal with those? How can you check if a website is fraudulent, and can we protect ourselves from them? It's difficult. It's not easy. People who create these websites are in it for the money, and will do everything to squeeze every penny out of your pocket, and get away with it. It's similar to those trying to get your details via fraudulent e-mails. Spam, with a virus hidden inside of it. That's not a new thing: e-mails like those have been sent since the early days of the internet, and we have become used to them. We see them nearly on a daily basis, and we delete them straight away. But with websites it's a bit different. Unless you check for signals. And if signals are showing you anything out of the ordinary, stop, and close the page! Firstly, check the validity of the page. On any website you can check if the connection is secure. You can do that, by clicking (in Chrome) on the lock symbol on the left of the website link. As an example, I've clicked on my own website, to show you what it says about my page: You don't need to be an internet wizard to find out if the page you are on, is secure. Security is key. We need to know if the page we are visiting, isn't going to use our details, and destroy our lives online. So check that first. Another indication of a secure website is the actual URL: does it start with HTTPS:// ? You can see that it's secure, due to the added S after HTTP. But people have also tried to go around those security features, so what else is there to check, before committing to a purchase? Check online reviews. Check if a company has had some feedback. Feedback is important. Again, it also has some flaws: companies buying 'reviews', so they look legitimate, and the product they are selling, looks absolutely amazing. But look deep down inside: if a product has only good reviews, but after reading the description, you know it's a simple product, not THAT amazing, click the 'close' tab. Nothing is that good. But don't get too excited and think that, if there are bad reviews, that the company isn't valid. It could simply be that this product is faulty, and that other items they sell are genuinely good. So search for the company as a whole, and check if they do deliver. Are they good with their customer service? Do they deliver on time? How is their general approach? Things you would like to see, when you go into a general store. Obviously the companies you know which have stores all over the country do not count. They have got a reputation to uphold, so they will have invested a lot of money to make sure that their online service is up to date, and follows the rules and regulations, set up by their government, or even the EU, or America, or Asia. I'm not familiar with any rules or regulations there, so you might need to check them first. But from a UK perspective, there are many rules and regulations to follow. Websites do know how to look legitimate, everyone can build a descent looking website, like the one you are on. We are not looking at websites like MySpace's designed websites. It can all be made easier, so whatever you are after, there's a platform for you to build a website on. But the reputation is to be made. And it takes time. You won't become a highly respectable website within a few days. Reputation has to grow, and you will fall from time to time. You will make mistakes, but you have to deal with them in a good way. Back on track. So you've checked if the website is secure. You don't want your credit or debit card details to be online, for everyone to see. Fraudsters will use those details to purchase items on your behalf, and you wouldn't even notice them, until you check your bank account online and you hear that a purchase has been made, or money has been transferred. Once that has happened, it will become a struggle to retrieve the money via your bank. Banks do have guided help in what to do, once your account has been used for fraudulent activities. But you could beat them, and only use secure websites, and check if the reviews are good. Your bank could even help you. As an example: I received a text from my bank (Santander) to report a payment, which I made, but they saw it as maybe fraudulent. Here's the text from them, taken out some details obviously (for GDPR reasons): You follow the steps provided by them. Check if the number you received this text from, is indeed your bank's number. If you don't even feel like it's a legitimate number, always contact your bank. Report these kinds of activities immediately, so they can act on it. They've got a dedicated page set up on their website, how to report this, and how to spot them. Banks have a duty of care, and will step in, in case they see a transaction doesn't look alright. Lastly, the only thing you need to do, is follow your guts. Do you think it's OK, or not? Do you think it's all OK? Check prices on other websites? Do they sell the item at a much higher price? What's the 'standard' price on other websites? If a product has an average price of (example) £300, but they are selling it to you for only £25, you might need to scratch your head twice. Is it really that good? How can they sell it cheap? You can use your feelings, and maybe let this one pass. Do the right thing. The downside of online shopping, is that you do not see the actual item, with a price tag. You cannot confront the cashier with the price stated on the tag. You cannot have a physical interaction with someone. And, as an added bonus, if this company has got stores, why not go there? It might a trip worth it. You can see and feel the item, and inspect the quality. Or maybe pay a few pennies more, but with the knowledge that you will get the item. Don't fall into the trap in ordering an expensive item, and have a box delivered with a brick inside of it. Don't do that. Every penny that goes into those people's pockets are our hard earned pennies, and should not travel from hard working people into sleazy people's pockets. Another thing I just realised: ask friends and family. If you are looking for an item, ask if they have got any ideas. They might have bought from a specific company, and they can always provide you with decent feedback. They can always give you feedback, be it positive or negative. Give them a ring, and ask. There's no harm in asking. They could also provide you with names to stay away from. If you have fallen into the trap, I am sorry to hear. But you can do something about it. Report it to your bank, report it to the provided (for example Ebay or Amazon), and write a review online. Make sure others are aware. Sharing is caring, and it will open not only your own eyes, but others too. It will only become harder. The future will be a bit more difficult for us mankind, seeing as we rely on the world wide web. But as long as we stay focussed, and rely on our own instinct, we can hopefully stay outside of those dodgy hands. Grabbing thieves. Money isn't everything in life, but it certainly makes sure you stay alive. So don't let it be taken away from you. Keep your details secure, don't share passwords, or your debit/creditcard details. Keep your online identity safe.
- BrunkEvents Podcast #2 By DJ Casketkrusher (2020)
I am not sure what Brunk Events is, and others might have to fill me in, but I went on their Facebook page, and under the 'About' section, it's all in German. So anyone (preferably Germans), could you maybe help me? I'm guessing that's it's an online platform for DJ's, newcomers or professionals. It's focussed on the harder styles, like Early Hardcore, Terror, Speedcore, Frenchcore, Raw, and more. So, guess what kind of music we are about to listen to? That's right, the best music out there! Hardcore. Made by Casketkrusher. And secretly I adore him. We all know that. No reason to hide it anymore. Casketkrusher is my hero. An upcoming talent, who should get more recognition for his work. One who brings the Early sound back to life. And when I say the Early sound, I do mean the Early sound. He keeps on producing excellent anthems, all with a twist. You do recognise certain sounds from older tracks, or the way they were composed. Casketkrusher has mastered his craft, and has made it into an art form. Not many out there focus much on the Early sound, and make it work well. There might be a few, but Casketkrusher's back catalogue is too impressive to sweep it under the rug. Someone who keeps the Early sound alive, and makes it work extremely well, gets my recognition, and gratitude. I am in awe with the music he creates. He might have been too young when Hardcore was created during the early 90s, but he has certainly got the producing vibe. If he was active during the Early days, he would have been an extremely successful producer, trust me. This kind of music would have suited the Hardcore era beautifully. A spot on a Thunderdome CD? Easily done. Happy Hardcore CDs? Yeah, he would have been on there. I just love his dedication to this unique sound. And when I discovered this mix, I jumped straight on it. And as you would expect, it's packed with his own stuff. Just sit back, press play, and let the Early sound take you into another dimension. Embrace Casketkrusher. Well. That's a nice looking tracklist, isn't it? It's a beauty. A lot of his own productions are in here, so if you are wondering what Casketkrusher is capable of, don't worry: you will find out once you press play on this mix. And I think you should, if truth be told. Why? Well, you love Early Hardcore, right? So why not check this out? I get this vibe whenever I listen to a Casketkrusher mix. It just takes me right back to the 90s. Full on Early Hardcore mode from the get go. You obviously need to have a passion for the early sound, of course, otherwise this mix might sound extremely boring, and old. If you are a fan of the present day Hardcore and have not discovered the glorious early sound, you might not like it at first, but trust TCD, I do urge you to give this a go. Casketkrusher is a legend. I would go as far as to say that he's my favourite Early Hardcore/Happy Hardcore producer at the moment. So you can imagine that I will give this mix a thumbs up. A big thumbs up. And if you are interested in this kind of music, why not check the man out on Soundcloud? He's got so many great songs on there. Hours of fun. A wicked mix. I would not have expected anything less. He's a legend. He's took the sound, crafted it into something beautiful, and has given me, this old Hardcore nutter, hope. Hope that the Early sound has not died, and will never die. And that's a comfort I am happy to live with. If you want to check out more mixes like this one, why not check out Brunk Events' Soundcloud page. They've got plenty of mixes, all focussed on the harder styles. So go mad, and check them out. Also, the best record in this mix has to be 'Buzzin''. Proper Happy Hardcore vibes. Loving it! - Mysteryland - Live Recorded - June 16th 2001 - Six Flags Holland
Back in 2001 I went to this rave, you might have heard of it. It's called 'Mysteryland'. This absolutely epic event took place at Six Flags Holland. And at the time it was so damn cool: I think when you purchased a ticket for the event, you also had access to the theme park. Can't tell how much the entry was, but yeah, you had a whale of a time. Who doesn't want to be on a buzz, and in a rollercoaster, all at the same time? It was so damn unique. I really loved it. I remember it like it was yesterday. I don't know who I went with, but what I do know is that we went by car. And once we entered the place, we were in the best place the world had to offer that day. With a big ass field for us ravers to dance on, and multiple areas we could dance in, you couldn't imagine a world outside of Mysteryland. Again, this event took place 19 years ago, so I'm not really aware who played what, when, and where. I wish I had that little foldable map from Camel. Yes, Camel still had some influence in the raving community. Most of the event is a big blur. I did remember falling out with a friend of mine, but that's a whole different story. I did remember the weather turning nasty at one stage, and on Partyflock it stated that during Marco V's set it all came crashing down. Well, whenever it happened, I did remember many people rushing towards a safe and dry place. But hey ho, it was all in good spirit. You could expect such a thing; it's still the Netherlands, and not some country on the equator. What made this CD so special, was the added VHS tape, which I sadly lost. Also the t-shirt I had. God knows where it is. But the VHS contained video of the actual event. Thankfully you can find everything online nowadays, and Youtube is our friend. But we are more interested in the music, aren't we? The music was good. And live. You can hear the crowd screaming and shouting. And probably me somewhere among the thousands of ravers. The tracklist, if you have never seen or heard this CD before. What a disappointment album it was at the time. I did remember the die-hard Hardcore fanatics being upset for not having a CD focussed on the style that made Mysteryland big in the first place. It was also the last year that they had a Thunderdome area (it did come back, many years later). But in 2000 they also did a 'normal' CD, not focussed on Hardcore either. So it might have gotten some lack of attention from the raving community, but not from me. I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds like it's a Marco V set? It could have easily been, but if I'm incorrect, do let me know. Oh, and also let me know if you've got a Mysteryland 2001 t-shirt for sale, or even a 1998 t-shirt for sale. I would appreciate it. The actual CD is quite good, and versatile. But the main focus is obviously Techno and Trance, and it's one album that will always travel with me, wherever I go. I was here, and I've got fond memories of the event. So it will always be a highly praised CD for me. It does have one error, as most ID&T CDs had at the time. Isn't Joy Kittikonti's track the 14th, and not the 9th? Anyway, the music on the actual CD. It's live recorded, and that makes everything 100 times better. The crowd, you always need to hear the crowd making noises. That's just the best part of being at a rave. And you can hear them loose themselves several times throughout this recording, especially during the best and most underrated Trance anthem of all time: 'Obscura' by Out Of Grace, my personal favourite. I really love this CD. It's not the best of all the Mysterylands, but it's certainly not the worst (many would follow, years after this event the quality of the CDs would go down the drain), but on a personal level, it takes me back to Six Flags Holland. I was young, innocent, and having the time of my life. I cannot find a version of this album anywhere, so enjoy the video of the actual event. Might give you an impression on how things were back then. It was actually what was on the VHS tape, so the quality is really bad lol. But you can at least enjoy a few acts, like Safri Duo, Marco V, Pavo, Dana, Cosmic Gate, and more. - DJ Thera - Hit You With That Oldskool - Mixtape 4 (2020)
I don't know how many Thera reviews I've done so far, and how many were focussed on his latest mix series, but it has become something of an obsession to me. I need to hear that Old Skool sound, I simply cannot let this go by without listening to it at least once. About a week ago he uploaded the fourth instalment of his successful early Hardstyle mix series. A series I really enjoy, and I'm guessing thousands of us do to, seeing as it already has nearly 2.2k plays. Hardstyle is back! Well, I mean the early sound. I became a huge fan when it emerged, and I still prefer it over the present day Hardstyle. Fanboys, don't take offence, but I do like the early sound. It is just so much better, and so 'new'. At the time we didn't have anything similar: yes, we had Hard House, and of course Hardcore, but this was all new. And f**k me, it took the world by surprise. So many great tunes were made during the early years, and I can vividly remember buying a shit ton of CDs. All compilations, of course. I did spend a few euros on Hardstyle compilations, and to hear them again in 2020, it immediately makes me 20 years younger. DJ Thera is a Hardstyle fanatic, and his latest mix is packed with awesome goodness. It's so good, you don't even want to listen to anything else anymore. Today, we go back in time. Most of these I've already forgotten about. Of course Thera has a few big slammers in here, but also a few obscure and underground anthems. And those I really love. Oh Gawd, the tracks he used for this mix are just so damn wicked. How come we've completely made Hardstyle sound so different? Just check out 'Funky Shit' by DHHD, that's one hell of an oldskool anthem! Fuck me. Or what about 'Thunder In Paradise'? How's that for a track? Or 'Nobody Is Perfect'? Seriously, what has happened to the early sound? Who decided to change it? Again, I'm not saying the present day Hardstyle sounds bad, but why did we forget about the early sound? Before the DHHD fanclub starts getting hyped up, no, I've not selected their track as my favourite. My favourite has to be 'Umanoide' by The Hose. Never heard it before, but it has made me feel things I've not felt before. That sound is so nostalgic! Thanks Thera, for yet another epic mix. Only love and credits to this legend. Epic, epic, epic! - House Party 8 - The Hardcore Ravemix (1993)
The year 1993 was a really interesting year for me. It was the year I discovered Hardcore music. Now the story behind it isn't really that interesting to anyone else besides me, but what happened was, I would always visit my mom's friends on a Friday, and one of our mutual friends was a full on music lover. He had the biggest speakers, the coolest sound set at the time, and spent a fortune on CDs and cassettes. I adored his collection, and whenever I saw the CDs, I couldn't contain my happiness. So as cheeky as it might be, I asked him if he could record CDs onto my cassettes. So far so good. I was still listening to cassettes on my Walkman, seeing as I was only 10 years old, and did not have the pennies yet to get myself a portable CD player. One day my friend told me that he got the latest House Party CD, and it was a good 'un, but maybe a tad too hard. I always listened to 'softer' music, like Techno and House music. But this Hardcore music, never heard it before. So I said 'yeah, just put it on the cassette and I'll have a listen'. That CD was House Party 8, and my life changed completely. The bus journey home was interesting. I was listening to the tape, and only noise came out. I thought it was my cassette which was broken. How could this be music? Boom boom boom? Is that music? Is that what the kids find cool? But the bug caught me, and I never looked back since. I bought the CD, and even the follow up Hardcore CD, House Party 10, is one of my most treasured albums ever. Probably in the top 3 of all time favourites. So, this specific CD, it was my introduction into Hardcore music. Mixed by Gizmo, Buzz Fuzz, Dano, and The Prophet. In 2020 I'm still sitting here, knowing the album fully by heart, and still loving it. I feel like a teenager again. Young, innocent, and f**king loving it. If you haven't encountered the House Party collection, I would urge you to do so. They were really good, one of Arcade's finest CD series. Now, the tracklist: 01. TCM - Thundergods From Hell (Intro) 02. Genlog - It Feels So.... 03. DJ Bountyhunter II - Woops 04. Kuadra - La Onda (La Onda De Einstein Mix) 05. Ramirez - El Gallinero (Original Mix) 06. TCM - Braindead, The End Goosebumps, ladies and gentlemen. Goosebumps. This is the soundtrack of my youth. I was young, innocent, and the music took my by surprise I've not looked back ever since, and I thank my friend for introducing me into this weird yet marvellous world. It's 2020 today, and I'm still enjoying the tunes. I can literally dream the whole album, or hear the album without even have it playing! That's the power behind this album. And thanks to our friend magpie303 for uploading it onto Soundcloud. Of course he would have done exactly that, the Hardcore nutter. The good thing about this CD is, was the fact that it had an intro, midtro, and an outro. Maybe that's why I still love them a lot: a mix CD cannot be superb without an intro, midtro, and outro. It all stems from this CD, ladies and gentlemen. And the intros were so good! The mixing was also very tight. Quick mixing, and no fucking about. At certain moments not beautiful, but the message was to get us all dancing, and that's what this album certainly did. And you have to remember that this CD was made in 1993. Simplicity in regards to the equipment, compared to the present day. Still impressive what they did achieve with limited technological equipment. There are a few great anthems in here, and two are my all time favourites: 'The Box' by High Energy, and 'Acid Yell' by Deaz D, remixed by Gizmo. Both top notch singles. I always wondered though, what Rob Gee is saying during 'Nonshlen Tustokken'. I think he meant to say something in Dutch, but me being Dutch, I've got no freaking idea what he's saying? A good album. But, and I do mean this well, not the best House Party CD. It's number 10 that wins literally everything. Nonetheless, this album has been an inspirational album for me, and has made me who I am. For which I thank Arcade, Gizmo, Dano, Buzz Fuzz, and the Prophet! - Binary Finary: Trance Central 3 - Classics Set (2013)
I don't know why, but I've been having a classic Trance urge for the last few weeks. I need to hear more Trance, especially those anthems that were the dancefloor smashers from around the Millennium period. Maybe it's because Trance is the only style the wife listens to, when we are sitting in our home office for 8+ hours due to bloody COVID-19. No Hardcore, no Hardstyle, no Speedcore, no Dubstep, nothing. It is Trance, or stupid radio. So Trance it is. And it's not so bad, if you think about it. I just typed in 'Classic Trance' on Soundcloud, and one of the mixes it showed me, was by Binary Finary, made 7 years ago. And yes, ladies and gentlemen, the records they picked, are exactly what I want to see, if I think about early Trance anthems. Everyone has got a different opinion about early Trance anthems, but to me it's definitely the Millennium sound I'm referring to. And Binary Finary, already legends within the Trance scene, made this awesome, one hour long, mix. And of course they had to add their own anthem in there. Understandable. The tracklist is beautiful. Really beautiful. You might need to check it out, if you haven't already. 01. Three Drives - Greece 2000 (DJ Shog Remix) 02. Travel - Bulgarian (Signum Remix) 03. Marc et Claude - La (Moonman's Flashover Mix) 04. Jonah - Sssst (Listen) 05. Cosmic Gate - Firewire (Original Mix) 06. Condor II - You Can Kiss My (Original Mix) 07. Nu NRG - Dreamland (Original Mix) 08. Binary Finary - 1999 (Gouryella Remix) 09. Commander Tom - Are Am Eye (Commander Tom 99 Mix) 10. Pornrockers - Cunt Licker (Pulsedriver vs DJs At Work Club Mix) 11. CJ Bolland - The Prophet (Mark Sherry & James Allan Act Of God Mix) 12. Age Of Love - Age Of Love (Lee Tracey & Stu Turner's For The Love ReFILL) Yep, yep, yep. Just have a glance at the tracklist, and you will know why ye boi is loving this mix. This is the kind of music I grew up with, and when I did start going to Trance events, this is what I danced to the whole night. It was a magical time in TCD's history, and will never be forgotten. Sensation 2002, what a wicked event. The other day I actually listened to a CD which contained Binary Finary's anthem, and I really enjoyed it. What a coincidence that now I'm actually listening to one of their mixes on Soundcloud. This set has taken me back to my bedroom, buying all the Trance albums available. I left the Hardcore side around the Millennium period, and Trance was the next best thing for me. I absorbed all the albums, and it was my thing. It was my jam. And the jam was good. Really good. This unique sound cannot be replicated. And sadly isn't around anymore. It's so distinctive to the early 2000s. Some producers have tried to release records which sound similar, but it's just not the same, isn't it. And would you call present day Trance even Trance? Compare the two, and you will notice a huge difference between the two. Yes, they both bring you into a euphoric state of ecstasy, but slightly in a different way. I'd much more prefer the early sound. Nothing can beat it. The set is really good, and has taken me into a higher state of consciousness. I'm sitting here, enjoying the music a lot. Sadly can't go out, but staying indoors and listen to wicked music ain't a bad thing, if I'm honest. I really enjoyed the set. All the big anthems are in here. Sadly the one I enjoyed the most is reduced in length. Jonah's 'Sssst' is such an anthem and a half. Why don't they play this one more often? A filthy yet epic anthem. A good mix to start your Saturday morning with. Let the early Trance sound take your into another atmosphere! Enjoy it as much as I have! - Research Before Purchase, Why Is It Important?
It is always important to do your research, if you are planning on purchasing an item online. Or even when you are going to purchase it in a physical store. But whatever you do, make sure you check the internet first. The internet is a beacon of knowledge, and millions of pages are available for you, to get the finest deals. Due to COVID-19 many of us have to work from home, and I thought it would be a great idea to buy a desk. The old desk I had become obsolete, due to the wife also working from home, and in need of a desk. She got my 'old' desk, and I need a new one. I went to Amazon, seeing as they always deliver very quickly, and for free, and found a desk. It had some good reviews, but before delving too deep into the reviews, I purchased an L shaped desk. It looked nice. It did. But was it any good? Nope, it certainly wasn't. What a huge disappointment. I have set it up, and it felt flimsy from the first time I sat behind it. My God, what a let down of a purchase. It was cheap, I'll tell you that. But I was expecting a bit more. And it didn't deliver. The quality was poor. The only good thing was the actual putting together. All the parts came, and the instructions were clear. But I've sat behind the desk for a couple of weeks now, and have got several bruises and scratches. And it's certainly not ergonomically beneficial for me: someone who's got lower back issues, and multiple pins in his right shoulder. The moral of this story? Don't buy because it looks good, and is cheap. Don't get me wrong: sometimes you can be lucky, and a purchase is actually good. I've had product from all over the world being sent to me, for not a lot of money (because why go expensive for a simplistic item), and they've been good to me. But if you are going to use it on a daily basis, you need quality. This involves investigation. Some research is to be done. So what do you need? Certainly not a laptop. You do need any form of availability of getting onto the internet, be it via a laptop, a PC/Mac, your mobile phone, a tablet, or whatever device you use. And a piece of paper, and something to write on it. A pen or pencil, whatever floats your boat. If you want to use a pen and ink, that's fine by me. And you need time. A lot of time. Don't make any hasty decisions. Those types of decisions always result in headaches, and you won't feel good after. As an example of a headache decision caused by a hasty decision: you might purchase an item for a nice price, but after purchasing it, you find it cheaper somewhere else. That's the worst. And how many of us do actually cancel the order? I don't think I've ever cancelled an order, or even returned it. Use the internet! Do it! As I said, it's our beacon of knowledge, and it can give us all the answers we need. Let's take my own issue I've got right now as an example: a new desk. I won't name any companies, but if you search online, you will find the names quickly. I need a new desk. A sturdy one. And one that suits me. I'm long in size, and have got long legs, so I need space to put my legs underneath the desk. Before you start to get excited, measure yourself. Put your chair in the most comfortable position, and let someone else measure your knee heights, and width. You don't want to sit behind a desk, with your legs crammed into a narrow space. Or even worst: a desk which constantly touches the armrests of your chair. Or when you get up to leave, and one of the rests gets stuck, and the second you get back into position, the desk nearly gets catapulted into the Earth's orbit. That's a horrible feeling. OK, you've got your dimensions written down, what's next? Colour! And desk size. But firstly, colour. What colour are you going for? What matches the rest of your interior? Is your room dark purple? If so, you don't want a light colour. Or maybe you do, to break the dark pattern. It's all up to you. But make sure you get a colour in your head, or at least a range of colours that might work. Next is the size of your desk, and its shape. I never knew you had multiple choice in regards to desks. Waved, rectangular, with or without storage, standing desks, there are so many options available. So make sure you are writing down the options you do need. Is the desk going to be in a corner, or in the middle of your room? Location, location, location! Next is the big step: you are entering the internet. Don't just click on the first link you see after you typed in a few keywords, like 'L shaped desk brown', as an example. Maybe click on a few, and have a few tabs open. Just browse through each page, and absorb the information provided. Let it all sink in what the world has to offer. And if you have the time, why not let Google show you more pages, with more options/pages available? Come on, be a bit bonkers, and absorb it all! When you have searched at least 10 pages, make yourself a nice cup of tea, just to relax. Don't forget to breathe, and don't overdo it. When you feel there's too much pressure on your shoulders, turn your PC off, and chill. Unless there's too much pressure from family or friends to order a part, in which case you can refer to this blog and the following phrase you can use: "do it your freaking self!!!" After the nice cuppa, you get back to work. In this case you have checked several websites, and seen some nice desks. Some rather nice. Wouldn't be amiss among your furniture. But wait! You are being too hasty. Has the website got all the markings of being a good website? Has it got the right boxes ticked? Does your anti virus show it as being a good site? Now comes the hard bit: searching online for reviews of the company. That is what you do prior to checking the reviews of the desk itself. The company should be legitimate, and should be trusted. Make sure it's got good reviews. If it portraits itself as a company that been around for many years, yet has only 1 review online, be cautious. You have to be cautious. There are plenty of internet trolls out there, and also people who place fake reviews, paid to do so. It's a tricky situation: how to distinguish the fakes from the real reviews? With that I sadly can't help you with: you need to learn to 'read' the reviews. Some are so obviously lying, that it's just not feasible to order or continue to look at this specific manufacturer. But it's something you can only learn, when you have fallen in the trap yourself, like I have in the past. Read the most recent reviews, and check if they sound valid. If a customer complaints about the fact that he/she ordered a rectangular desk yet got a waved desk, that's clearly not a manufacturing defect, but an order process issue. If you read multiple of these, then there's clearly something wrong. But if it's only one review, don't worry: as long as all the others are okay. Also check the reviews in regards to the customer service. You can find all the reviews on multiple platform, and sometimes even on the buying page itself, like on Amazon. Customer Service is important, if there's an issue that needs to be resolved, be it a good or bad one. Product might be good, but if you cannot return the item without the help desk being a complete pain in the rectum and charging you, you might need to reconsider. And when you think you are there yet, you are not! The page you are on might offer it for a certain price, but definitely check elsewhere for the same item: you might get a discount at other sellers. Sometimes even free delivery. But you will only find that out if you do your research. Every situation is different, obviously, and you have done your checks. But when do you need the part? Do you need it NOW, or in a couple of weeks? Due to COVID-19 certain items might take longer to be delivered, some even in August or September. I couldn't wait that long, so I found a supplier of desks, and asked them via their online chat for availability and delivery times. In this specific case the service agent was very nice, checked stock, and also checked how quickly it could be delivered. Always, and I do mean ALWAYS, be nice to them, as I've been one of those agents before, and I do know the pressure they have to endure on a daily basis. They might sell thousands of items, and a handful are faulty, but the abuse they get on the phone or via social media or online chat platforms is just beyond belief. Don't think that you screaming or swearing down the phone will help you get things sorted quicker. You can express your unhappiness in a different way, but always be polite; they don't manufacturer the item, or are in charge of delivery, or anything, other than picking up the phone, and answering your enquiry. Nothing more. So be nice. Make sure you've got money in the bank, otherwise you might look a bit foolish. And when payment is accepted, make sure you get an order confirmation. The other day I ordered a desk from a huge supplier, paid, and never received an order confirmation. It turns out they have an issue with this, and advised the customers to try to reorder at a later time, off peak. But after reading the comments on social media, the company still has issues with this. The money is still pending towards them, and hopefully I will retrieve my money as soon as possible. Customer Service is important, but your own investigation is also important. Do your homework, and everything goes smoother. Try it, and you will succeed. I have now ordered a new and sturdier desk, which will come next Monday/Tuesday. Knowing myself I will probably write a review about the new desk, and will let you know if it's any good. But from thinking 'I need a new desk' to the moment I started writing this blog post, it must have been a good three days of investigating all the options available. What I'm trying to say is, never assume. Every legitimate company out there will do their best to please the customers. But there are fraudulent companies out there, who will try to squeeze every penny out of your pocket. They are aggressive and sometimes they lurk among the big companies, pretend to be something they are certainly not. Be careful. It also depends on the product you want to purchase, how long you need to investigate your options. If you are standing in the supermarket and want to decide which type of bananas you want, you don't need days. Maybe a few more seconds, to check if it has all the good seals of approval. Don't buy dodgy bananas. You won't buy bananas which have turned black, would you? So why not check the label and see if the farmers get the money they deserve? Fair trade is important. If you want to purchase an expensive mobile phone, don't follow the trend. Look deep inside yourself, and see what you need it for. Do you take a lot of pictures and want good quality? Maybe you need a phone with a good camera setup. Or are you more on social media, but don't care about images? Maybe one phone with a better chip set, which makes it run smoother, and quicker. Or, in worst case scenario, you want a specific IOS. Check every option out there. You don't want to purchase an item which looses the interest factor in just a few days, do you? You want to look at your phone in months from point of purchase, and look at it in awe, still happy with the purchase. And make sure you can afford the monthly bill. I hope this blog post was any good in informing you in what you should do and shouldn't do when you want to purchase an item. Stop and think, and research. It might give you better options, save you a few pounds/euros/dollars, and saves you from having headaches and high blood pressure. Share and leave a like below! Ps. this is not my credit card. Don't think I'm that silly!
- DJ Smurf - 1993 Megamix - Part One (2019)
Last year DJ Smurf celebrated his 25 years in the game, and the year was full on madness. If you haven't seen any of this, you have missed out on a lot. The hashtag #deng was trending. Not worldwide though, but still a trending hashtag. He made the deng, whatever the deng might be. Is that the noise when the Smurfette takes out the anal beads? Not sure. But whatever it might be, he has been giving the world the deng for a quarter of a decade. And that's impressive. His page is literally filled with hours of fun. From the craziest Terror music to whatever comes to mind, it's there. And also a mix so damn good, I couldn't let this one slip by. It's a megamix, with tracks from 1993. I think, and only I can correct myself, that this was the year I became a raver. A very young raver though. Don't let my young looks fool you: I might look 25, but I am fucking old. 36 years. So in 1993 I was 10 years old, and discovered Techno music. Obviously not the underground stuff, more the commercial side of it, but still. It was the year I became a normal human being. I left the pop scene behind, and went full on mad from that year onwards. We are now 26 years later, and 1993 was still a memorable year. So many great tunes were created, and they are still being played, even in 2020. Smurf's mix contains not the anthems, but the more obscure tracks. Not entirely true though: he has got 'Camargue' by CJ Bolland, 'The Emperor Takes Place' by The Mover, and a few more classic anthems in here. Maybe they weren't as big in the UK as they were in the rest of Europe? Anyway, the mix. You would expect Gabber or Speedcore. You are wrong. As Smurf calls these records 'acid-techno caper'. You can hear the Hardcore sound lingering in these anthems, but it wasn't really there yet. Close, but not yet ready to become humongous. The tracklist, for you Techno lovers. You'll thank me after. 01. Bourbonese Qualk - Otaku 02. The Mover - The Emperor Takes Place (2017 Remaster) 03. The Hypnotist - Pioneers Of The Warped Acid 04. Ace The Space - 9 Is A Classic [First Take] (Original Raw Street Mix) 05. Neptune - Arrival 06. Church Of Extacy - Babbahouse 07. Joe Inferno - Hypno Space 08. Human Resource - Beyond The Edge (Speedy J Remix) Lovely bit of Techno music on this Wednesday. Don't you just love to hear those classic chords coming towards you at an incredible pace? Yes, DJ Smurf loves his music hard and rough, but when he goes a tad slower, he still makes excellent mixes. And this is a jewel. A proper early 90s mix. Hell yeah. Again, back in 1993, I was only 10, so I missed out on a lot of excellent tunes. And Smurf's mix is jam packed with obscure, underground anthems. A lot I have not even come across before. A delight to hear those. They might be old, but haven't aged a day! Those that I do know, are good anthems. The one that stood out for me, was 'Afghan Acid' by The Rising Sons. It was on Mysteryland 1994's third CD, and that was actually my first compilation ever. But would I classify it as my favourite record of Smurf's mix? Nope. It was difficult to choose from 27 wicked tunes, but the one that sticks out BY FAR is CJ Bolland's masterpiece 'Camargue'. What a feast to hear this monster of a tune. It doesn't matter where you are, you can play this, and crowds will loose themselves completely. Weird question, but what happened to CJ Bolland? The flow is good, the tunes are good, and it's also downloadable. What else do we need? Stay indoors, stay safe, and listen to Smurf's wicked mix from last year. It won't disappoint you. - M.I.K.E. Push - Live @ A State Of Trance Festival Utrecht (27/02/2016)
If you think of classic Trance, one of the first names that spring to mind, is M.I.K.E. Push. This Belgian legend has been active since 1992, and has been giving us music for many years. This man knows a lot about making good music: the top three records of his back catalogue are genuinely seen as the best of the best, of all time: Universal Nation, Strange World, and of course The Legacy. I can only assume that, whoever is asked to compose a top 10 list of all time favourite Trance anthems, would pick at least one of these three records made by M.I.K.E Push. Or maybe all three. This shows how great of a producer he is. He's also a great DJ, and back in 2016 he was asked to play at A State Of Trance. And will you Adam and Eve it: this set is on his Soundcloud page, and it's live: the crowd can be heard clearly. This is always an added bonus. You can always tell if a set is much appreciated when you heard the crowd scream and whistle constantly. If my ears do not lie, I can hear the crowd throughout M.I.K.E. Push's whole set, non stop. But truth be told, he has picked the finest records, and to top it all of: he has selected his three biggest anthems of all time, the ones I mentioned before. The set is an hour long, and has got 10 records in it. This obviously means that you can full extended version, no short radio edits. And boy, when the music comes in to play, you will immediately be transported to Trance Heaven! Just look at the tracklist, and you will know why I am reviewing this set right now. 4 years too late, but at least I'm reviewing it. 01. Push - Universal Nation (Original Mix) 02. Plastic Boy - Silver Bath 03. Solar Factor - Urban Shakedown 04. M.I.K.E. Push - Chiffon 05. Amir Hussain - Ethica 06. Push - Strange World (2000 Remake) 07. Dimension - Mangata 08. Sean Mathews - Paradise (Giuseppe Ottaviani Remix) 09. Push - The Legacy 10. Marcel Woods - Advanced Sweet baby Jesus. I wasn't ready for this full on Trance adventure on this glorious yet windy Sunday morning. This is a glorious set, I must admit. And you will know the set is going to be great, when you do look at the tracklist alone. Fuck me sideways, this is pure Trance. This is what I like to call Trance. Many people have got different opinions about it, but in hindsight, we are all allowed to have an opinion. But if you are thinking of making a classic Trance mix, you have to choose these records. All 10 anthems selected by Mike are genuinely the best out there. Everyone might have a different opinion about which record is the best in Mike's mix. And I fully understand that you might disagree with my choice, but I do not choose any of the three classic anthems by Push. My personal favourite is Solar Factor's 'Urban Shakedown'. I remember hearing it for the first time during Tiesto's big concert, and I have been loving it ever since. If you are thinking 'this record sounds a lot like a M.I.K.E. Push record', you are not lying: it is made by him. The legend has delivered an excellent set. Only credits for this set. And you can also download this from Soundcloud. It's like Christmas has come early for me this year. This will go on constant repeat for today. He could have easily played for longer, he is that big of a legend. But this hour at ASOT750 is just sheer madness. So cool to hear the classics again. I do miss the early sound a lot. DJ: M.I.K.E. - Karcher - High Pressure Cleaner HD 5/12 C Plus
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, another product review. This time it's a pressure cleaner from Kärcher. Last week I bought a brand new lawn mower, but this week I had this urge to get a pressure cleaner/washer. And there's only one brand that comes to mind: Kärcher. When, back in my homeland, I used to work at a service station, I always used a Kärcher high pressure cleaner, be it for the carwash, wash boxes, or just generally everywhere around the pumps, the tiling, the outside of the shop. Basically anywhere that needs a good machine to clean thoroughly. Kärcher is the brand you need. But they are also not cheap. You can get a simple and affordable high pressure washer for around £100, but the job I had in mind required power so intense, a simplistic machine would not be able to do the job. So I had to look at options. One of the options was to rent the cleaner. My good friend told me about HSS Hire. Seeing as I'm not from this country and not familiar with any renting outlets, I followed his advise. And the cost is quite affordable! Buy the machine brand new, and the total price would be around £650 from the manufacturer directly. Or rent it from a rental source, like HSS Hire, for an affordable price. You can have the item for 1 day, for £22.50. An extra day? No worries, £9.38 extra. If you need it for a weekend, you can. £26.25. Or if you feel rather excited and need it for a week? £37.50. I did it for a week. The item is still in my garden, and boy, has it done the job well! As you can see clearly from the images in the slideshow above, it has done the work brilliantly. And yes, before anyone gets upset, I know I have not followed the health and safety protocol. I was wearing standard trainers by Adidas, which are obviously now ruined for life. HSS Hire did provide me with 2 leaflets in regards to how to operate the equipment, and all the health and safety requirements. As I am as daft as a person can be, and me having experience in the past with Kärcher, I just went straight into cleaning the garden. With ruined sneakers as a result. Oh well, it was damn well worth it! Setting the machine up was dead easy. Like, really easy. I can speak out of experience (15+ years of experience back in NL), but even if you were a newbie to this high pressure world, you can set this up quite easily. No tools required. The delivery was speedy and on time, and it came with everything I needed. And as you can see from the images above, I also paid for the cleaner and degreaser. I had to use the whole 5 litres just to get the garden back in 'normal' conditions. The garden has not been done for donkeys years. So it needed a treatment. I planned this for many years, but always had issues, seeing as the house did not have an outside tap. But we found one, hidden away from the rest of the world. Hence why everything now went in quick mode: I can do now things I've been wanting to do for years! And cleaning the back garden was always a 'must do'. Truth be told, it just had to be done. It had run its course, and it was kind of neglected. It wasn't filthy or anything, it was just dirty. We do live in the London area, and it could be coming from the sky? Could be pollution? It wasn't dark of colour because we BBQ nearly every week (I wish). It just happened. The machine has a flow rate of 500 litres per hour, with an operating pressure level of 120 bar, max pressure being 175 bar. It is a hefty machine: with all the accessories attached it weighs around 25 kg. It's a big boy, but with weight you do get more power. It does come with some safety features. You do obviously need to provide your own garden hose, and power supply cable (if required). The retractable small hose for the cleaning product is quite handy: when used, you just simply push it back into the machine, and it's out of sight. The handle bar can also be reduced in length: press the big yellow button on the top of the machine, and it will fall down with ease. During the cleaning process of the garden I did made a mess of myself, and was covered in dirt from top to bottom. And as you can see from the images, my shoes were ruined. But still OK. The main question is: has the Kärcher done the job, and has it done it correctly? My answer to that is 'yes'. A big, fat, YES. I won't comment on the whole process of ordering and returning the product to HSS Hire, seeing as the item is still here. But the ordering process was really simple, and easy. You might want to look at purchasing a cleaner yourself if you require it multiple times throughout the year and not only once. But if you only require it once every so often, you could simply just hire the item. Speaking out of experience, I do know that the Kärchers always last a long time. They are expensive, but can take a beating. A proper beating. Sadly, when they do break, it's costly, but seeing as it was covered by my company, I didn't need to worry. I think that in 15+ years I only ever had to purchase a new cleaner, a few nozzle heads, and that's basically it. Let's put down the pros and cons, and see if the product is worth the pennies... CONS: * Big bulky machine * Expensive * Widely used as a professional machine rather than used at home. * Provided cleaning product didn't do much. Pressure washer did everything itself PROS: * Quality over quantity * High pressure * Quick assembly * Quirky features, including retractable hose * Free delivery if order via Kärcher directly So, is the Kärcher worth the money? I would say yes. If you do require it more than once a year, I would purchase it directly from Kärcher (or look for other options). Or if that's too dear, and you only require the pressure cleaner once, go and see if you can rent it for a specific length of time, as long as the job requires you to use the machine. The weight is an issue, but the machine comes with two wheels. I wouldn't say it's easy to manoeuvre, and you do need both arms to move it from a to b, but it is still operational, wherever you need it. The garden looks like it's brand new, and has made me happier. But the wife, she has to judge it. And she has given it the thumbs up. Thanks Kärcher and HSS Hire. I will use them more in the future. Maybe, and I use the word lightly, I might do the front garden path tomorrow? I need to see if my shoes have dried tomorrow. If not, hey ho, maybe another day. - jerOO - Isolation Pt.1 (2020)
The mighty jerOO is back! Remember the time when he made so many excellent mixes, and all of a sudden he vanished? That made me sad. I really appreciated his music, and he became a living legend after he made a mix for us! Only a handful of people have become legends, and jerOO is one of them. But all jokes aside, he mentioned that he got his decks out due to quarantine/COVID-19. A lot of bad things have happened due to COVID-19, but also a few good things. And this return of jerOO, I consider as a good thing. According to the info underneath the mix, he will be uploading a few more mixes. So be ready to be amazed. How funny is it, that only a handful of days ago I was talking about Dubstep and the 'lack' of mixes, and now jerOO has come back. It's like all the stars were aligned when I said that. And I also reviewed his TCD mix a couple of months ago. Yeah, I'm a bit of a fanboy of jerOO. I hope this means he will stay with us a bit longer. Or makes at least 100 mixes. If he does that, that's fine. But we do need a lot of these Dubstep/Grime mixes. They are so extremely chill. I've missed out on a lot, so I'm not familiar with most of the artists in this mix. If you are, give yourself a pat on the shoulder. Congratulations. 01. Commodo - Loan Shark 02. Trekka - Lion Tribe 03. ENiGMA Dubz - The Eyes VIP 04. Roklem - Fern Dub 05. Maes - Rivia 06. ENiGMA Dubz - Enlightenment Trust me, this mix is dope. This is jerOO. Yes, he's back! Thanks COVID-19 for reuniting the world with this legend. Proof that there is a God, and he loves Dubstep. And yeah, good choice. Anyway, the mix. I do rant on and on constantly. It's the being inside that drives me mad. And lack of Maccie Dee. But let's put our 'serious' hat on. jerOO's mix is as you would expect it to be: on point, and so freaking good. The vibes throughout this mix are generally good. I do feel kind of relaxed, and mellow, but yet I feel this deep urge inside, to release myself fully on the dancefloor. Powerful and emotional music. People underestimate Dubstep, and think it's only this weird noise. It's certainly NOT. Want proof? Just listen to any of jerOO's mixes. I've got no complaints whatsoever. The only thing I would urge people to do, is show your love and appreciation for jerOO. And check out his previous mixes, and future mixes. Another epic mix this surely is. Can't wait to hear more from him. Best record? 'Badmouth (Dem A Talk)'. You know why once you hear it! - ATTLAS - Storyline: Vol 1 (2016)
Sometime during your life, you will find an artist who impresses you that much, you become fascinated about him/her. To me, the biggest surprise of my life so far, has got to be ATTLAS. And I fully understand if he's not your cup of tea, but to me, his music and his mixes are awe inspiring. Breathtakingly beautiful. And the way he puts his sets together, something so unique, and refreshing. To me he's inspiring, and every single mix on his Soundcloud page has been played over and over by yours truly. This is the ultimate music to me. Music that I can picture being played when I'm on my way to the gates of Hell or Heaven. And I wouldn't mind hearing this for the rest of my eternal life. Music can grab you, and hold on to you. Music can move you. You can hate it, and love it at the same time. You can literally be filled with emotions, and be happy that you do. I could close my eyes for the duration of this mix, and open my eyes after 53 minutes, and be as happy as a human could ever be.One of the reasons why I would be happy, is the way the mix is presented. ATTLAS' way of composing a mix is to incorporate move snippets/clips. God knows which movies, but the way he cuts and paste these bits together makes it feel like ATTLAS is telling a story. A story so gripping, you cannot let it go. You have to listen until the end. I've not figured out yet what the actual story is. But once I hear this mix, I let my mind go completely blank, and I just say 'fuck it all' to the world. I am lost, but found at the same time. I am here, there, and nowhere. I've heard this mix so many times now, it has become an obsession to me. I need to hear it at least once a week. Well, technically not just this individual mix, but anything by ATTLAS. And when he did the two livesets recently, I have played those over and over again. The repeat button on Soundcloud is just magnificent. I know I have reviewed this in the past, but I had to bring this to your attention again. Probably one of the coolest and most relaxing mixes you will ever hear. A stunning mix by an absolute legend. 01. Jens-Uwe Beyer - Hands 02. Jeremy Olander - Lunar 03. Ripperton - A Skilift Upstairs The Sleeping City (Max Cooper Remix) 04. ATTLAS - Red 05. Ryan Adams - Dear Chicago I don't have a good explanation on how to describe ATTLAS' approach to dance music, but what I do know, is what he does, he does it extremely well! This was one of my first introductions into his wonderful musical journey, and it has been one of the most pleasantly surprising mixes of all time. I was not expecting this to happen, and to have been delivered to me. You know that certain mixes will just 'please' you, and some are simply 'okay', but once every so often you do get a mix, which blows you away, blows you into smithereens. This is exactly that mix. Uploaded 4 years ago, and I'm still loving it. And with me, around 280k people. I wish he would add tracklists to his latest uploads, so I can share those with you guys. You know, ATTLAS is my hero. No, I don't care where he lives, what kind of hair product he uses, who his favourite Backstreet Boy is, I simply do not give a flying fuck about that. What I do care about, is the music that he releases. And mixes together, obviously. Euphoria, that is exactly the mood I'm in right now. With this coming towards me through my speakers, it makes me a happier man. A happy person. Relaxed. And alone. Protected in my big ass bubble. Nothing can hurt me when I hear this. The only thing I've got to mention before you all press play, is that (to me) this is one of the best mixes of all time. And I do mean it. At least a top three contender. Superstar DJ and producer. My personal favourite progressive House producer. A superstar. A legend. One epic mix. Side note: even though I really dislike Bjork's voice and generally everything related to her music, it did fit in well. Weird.
